But why would he want to transfer and come off the bench? Couldn’t imagine they start 7’0 and 7’1, can get burnt defensively that way.
They’ve actually done that in the past quite a bit. 2015-2016 they started 6’11 Kyle Wiltjer and 6’11” Sabonis.

In 2016-2017 they started 7’1 Center Karnowski with 7’0” Forward Zach Collins.

Then a couple years later, 6’11 Petrusev and 6’10” Killian Tillie.

Chet isn’t a true Center. He’s more of a forward. They’d 100% take both lol.

Highly improbable considering they’re very likely bringing in Chet Holmgren.

Yeah, seems like a competition of minutes but rumors he was going to Gonzaga prior to announcing his transfer. Zags have a plan for him, and with the attention/trust GM's have in Few probably wont affect his draft stock.

Seeing that Gonzaga had a lottery pick center come off the bench I doubt it would be an issue.
Gonzaga has two other 7’0” players that rarely see the floor on their bench this year. Both are underclassman. They could add Chet and honestly it looks like Walker will go there. My goodness they just reload.

They’re the favorites to land Hunter Sallis too. The rich truly do get richer

One of us who has experience with data tracking and analytics needs to get a dashboard/spreadsheet up and running to automate the connection of the 1000+ athletes hitting the transfer portal this year with which of them has existing relationships with D-Rob and Otz (and whomever else officially joins the staff). My own speculative brain is not going to know where to focus.

I’m sure Gonzaga would make room for both..

It looks like Kessler's main gripe was the minutes he got at UNC stuck behind Brooks, Bacot and Sharpe. I'm guessing he's looking for minutes and I'd imagine Holmgren would jeopardize that, especially if Timme stays.

Think Timme stays? If so, I’d agree that his minutes would be jeopardized.

NBADraft.net shows him mid-2nd round. They aren't always the most reliable but I think there's a shot he'd come back. With Kispert and Suggs gone he would see a bigger role.

If Timme stays I don't see Kessler going to Gonzaga unless Holmgren decides on GL route. Which I think is still a possibility.

ESPN doesn't have him in the top 60 right now but I think this tournament will improve his stock because he has been great against the best teams Gonzaga has played this year. Probably their MVP in those games.

Are we going to do this again?
Guess ISU recruiting him a third time could be a charm... He obviously would bring shooting.

I am getting curious on how TJ will approach who he brings in. He took a long term approach at UNLV his first 2 years. He may be looking for long term pieces as opposed to play 1 year players looking at year 3 to really compete or get the most ready fill in players and get as many wins in year 1 to jump start the rebuild. Interesting spring coming.

Gonzaga is perfect for a dude like Holmgren. While he's obviously great, I'm not sure you want him going up against grown-man G League competition. Hang out in the WCC for a year, score 17 a game and don't hurt your draft stock any.

While we know its a tough rebuild and it's not meant to be a quick fix, I hope TJ can bring in enough quality players and get them playing time. While I know most coaches often only play 6-7 main guys for chemistry or continuity pieces, it would be nice to have much more bench contribution and/or develop role players than what has occurred the last couple seasons.

I watched a fair amount of UNC as I have a son attending there. Kessler did not show as advertised, but he certainly has talent. He had no business playing in front of Sharpe, who's a beast and should be a nice pro player (he should have started), or Bacot. But, maybe he could have taken more time from Brooks. Probably will improve a lot in the next year.

Btw, my son tells me there are rumors of several UNC starters transferring out. I'd take Bacot in a heartbeat - nice blue-collar player, hits the boards hard, not a star. Wouldn't bother with the PG, Love, as he can't shoot and is loose w/ the ball (t/o's) - was way overrated. The Hopkins, MN kid we recruited, Walton, was one of the keys to their turnaround, as he can actually shoot, which was a novel thing on this UNC squad. If he transfers, definitely go after him. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe Roy needs to retire?
