Someone remember to come back to this forum in 3 years and see who has to eat crow. I’m actually pretty excited for this hire. Otz knows how to win here, a good recruiter and loves Iowa state so hopefully won’t be worried about him jumping ship. Pollard probably had this lined up months ago. Gives otz time to work transfer market and retain current players and incoming recruits
It’s not Otz. Sources close to the situation were monitoring a flight from Oklahoma City to Des Moines. Some have said that might be a sign that the head coach of OKC Thunder’s G League team and Marion, Iowa native Grant Gibbs, could have been en route to Ames.

This seems to be the common theme, that he knows how to win at Iowa State. What proof is there of that?
Did he win under McDermott? Nope
Did he win under Hoiberg? I'm sure most fans think yes, but remember he went to Washington for 2 seasons. Those just happened to be the 2 best Hoiberg years.
His year under Prohm was a sweet 16 season, but 10-8 in conference that year was very underwhelming.

I do hope he's widely successful here and all of us eat crow but right now, this looks like Pollard hiring his buddy because he was forced to pass on him 6 years go.
Unfortunately, history tells us we'll be having these same conversations 5 years from now.

Lol! If they are using flight tracker they are not "close to the situation".

I still don't understand the speed of hiring TJ. Literally no other school wants him, which seems to include UNLV!

I do. He had his man for probably the last three months. It’s not like he called him out of the blue. They are friends. The speed helps with keeping current recruits , getting new recruits, getting assistants. There are many reasons it happened quick. Now if you don’t like the hire that’s understandable. However, basketball stuff happens really fast. Look at Patino getting hired less than 24 hours after being fired

Wait what? Lol Prohm got fired two days ago for going 14-42 the past two years.. he failed so bad these past two years that he got fired for it. Had he been just below average, he’d honestly still be the coach.
How many conference wins would it have taken for Pollard to keep him? 2?
I bet if they would have somehow held on to beat Baylor (after Baylor sat out for like 3 weeks) that Pollard would have spun that as growth for next year.
