that island napoleon got sent to
I am excited to hire Otz. Guy is a young up and coming coach who can recruit, runs an exciting brand of b-ball, and bleeds cardinal and gold. Even aside from all the dbags who act like they know exactly how this went down, I don’t understand the hate from so many fans about this hire. But that is why they play the games...

Worth noting that if we had hired Otz the last time around, we very well may not be in this mess. Looking forward to some much needed excitement around this program.
He’s 43 and floundering at a semi big program. Neither young or up-and-coming.

Well, if this is true, and I think it’s likely that it is, I will absolutely support TJ and be hopeful.

I guess what disappoints me is the appearance or suggestion by this hire that after years of work and some success with Cyclone athletics, Iowa State is still not much of a destination that would attract coaches. McD was local. Fred had a history with the school. TJ has a history. Maybe Jamie sees that connection as a way to get a hometown discount. I appreciate JP’s fiscal responsibility, but it doesn’t yield a lot of excitement. On the other hand, Texas spends an inordinate amount on coaches with largely the same or less outcome as Iowa State, so I guess I prefer Jamie’s strategy.

I was wrong about Fred’s hire being a bad idea back in the day. I’m looking forward to being even more wrong about TJ’s hiring (hopefully).

Nobody can seriously argue that saying in the morning you're beginning a search for a new coach and hiring somebody that evening does not cast a cloud over the seriousness of the process. Maybe JP cannot control how information gets out in Las Vegas but he should have at least anticipated the possibility. It definitely makes JP look bad, and I'm a big fan of his tenure here.

The fact that you think that nepotism is only about family shows me that you don't know what nepotism is. At the end of the day, call it whatever you want. It's a completely ****** practice to favor your friends for jobs and not give others a fair chance at the same job. Again, imagine you're someone who has a winning percentage of 0.750 the last 3 years and you're beat out by someone because they're friends with the hiring manager. I could care less what term you use to describe that - you could call it cronyism too - it's an unfair and ****** practice, and corrupt.
Sorry but that's America.

TJ did ok his 1st year(s) with SDSU & UNLV with the former coaches players...
Things got worse the next 2 years at SDSU and this year at UNLV.
If he's such a great coach & recruiter, why couldn't he improve on his initial seasons? Why weren't other schools beating the door down for his coaching excellence?
Why did Jamie "have" to move so quick on this hire? I'm a patient man... I don't think it would've made a difference had he waited for a tournament team to end their run to talk to a coach, or his assistant.
I just have to hear it from Jamie 1st as to why this is "the man" for the job.
Well number one what you said is just flat out false. At SDSU there were some minor hiccups his first year but they got it going by the end of the year. The next two years were better. They won both the regular season and conference tournament in his second year there and the regular season his third year. Yeah they got upset in the conference tournament but as we’ve all seen sometimes an upset does happen. As long as it isn’t a pattern I wouldn’t worry.

Now at UNLV his second year was worse. I don’t really see that as a negative. As Chris said he is overhauling and rehabbing the culture out there. That is something overdue at UNLV and it will take time. You also have to factor in Covid this year. Covid is an excuse for everyone even Prohm. The question is how much does that buffer a teams struggles. 1 bad year out of 5 and it was already going to be a planned rebuilding year. I just can’t get overly concerned.

If this report turns out to be true I will be disappointed. Not because I think it the wrong decision but because it will appear we didn’t do a full search. I’ve said I think TJ is the best option but I think you at least needed to interview some people to see what they offer.

Between UNLV fans cheering, and the speed of this move... I don't feel so good about this.

What happens 4 years from now when we are in a similar position. Hilton Magic is a distant memory. Pollard is pushed out because of this debacle. With Pollard gone, CMC jumps ship to the NFL to be a GM.

I am a naturally pessimistic person, but man I can't get that image out of my head.
To be fair, Iowa State fans cheered when Creighton took McDermott off our hands and he's been great for them.

So much for what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. They must really want him gone.

Who the hell turns down money? If I was UNLV I'd make Pollard pay top $$$ for his man.

JP just had to tell them that nobody in the entire country wants to hire your worthless coach and take him off your hands, but I will if you lower the buyout!!

And bingo, UNLV gives in and says yes please take him!!! Might have even paid us something to get rid of him.

I don't understand why everyone thinks JP didn't do a full search.

First of all, pretty much everyone and their mother knew Prohm was getting fired... Like a month ago or more. What makes you think JP wasn't talking to candidates before??

Second of all... Some of you are pretty embarrassing.

Third of all, none of this is official yet.

Go Cyclones.
