Man this is nuts. Nothing is official and is based on a couple of unofficial tweets. Step back from the cliff. Get a grip. Maybe it'll be Otz, maybe it won't. Everyone on the outside looking in is laughing like hell. The trolls are winning.

I have always considered Keith Murphy a troll but I thought I was the only one.

The reports that it’s official might be premature. But everyone is standing by the idea that it’s basically a done deal.

As much as I question the wisdom of this hire, we could do a lot worse than Pollard.
That’s getting similar to TJ will be better than Prohm justification.

People change, as do their fit for a job. If this hire flames like Prohm, the Iowa St AD job may be bigger than 60+ JP. He’d fit better in the ISU foundation or even just some role in the administration. CEO of the new Iowa State Center or something

Will see...normally I would trust Jaime

but the Prohm extension was so stupid it really makes me question him in this particular sport

It does concern me that Jaime extended Prohm, that was a horrible decision and anybody that is involved with basketball knew he couldn’t coach by that point and was totally overmatched, yet Jaime did it anyway

that makes me really nervous he just has no idea what he is doing when analyzing men’s basketball coaches

we going to find out if tj is Fred or Prohm 2.0

Pollard has to at least wait until guys like Craig Smith and Dennis Gates are out of the tourney so it can be said that they just couldn't get interviews or something, right? Because even Pollard has to know how incredibly bad it would look to outwardly show there was no process for this hire beyond choosing a friend. It's a multi-million dollar job at a state institution, after all.

It may be, or may not be. I have no info.
My point is that it is the same group of posters ******** about this in a ******* circle jerk.

It seems bizarre to not even pretend to do a search. Maybe he was emboldened by all of the hatred spewed about Prohm that he could hire his bestie without a search.

Exactly. Before today, I didn't think of JP of very naive but I've greatly reconsidered that if the rumors of TJ being hired this fast are true.

As I've said many times..optics are important. You can't appease everyone, but you can sure as hell do things in a way that draw less questions. At least make it look like you did a search instead of hiring your friend right away who had a losing record at a Mountain West school.

You would think this is the thing experienced people in positions of great leadership would understand.. I don't know. Maybe he planned to actually wait, but the rumors leaked to his dismay, pissing him off and causing him to spend a few minutes basically lowering the bar for the next handful of years.

Either way, if JP didn't even bother to conduct a search then I don't want to hear him go on and on about integrity ever again.

I hope whoever we hire works out well. I'll never be upset at a coach for being hired but I can be upset at someone like JP for trying to imply what great morality he has only to make a quick decision to hire his buddy who had a losing record at a Mountain West school.

He talks about COVID-19 making Financials worse but there are coaches out there who are great who won't cost a lot relatively. Certainly not more than Prohm makes now. Craig Smith makes $700k/yr I believe. Double it and you are still paying hundreds of thousands less than what they were paying Prohm recently.

Even if he doesn't bother to reach out to those guys, he at least needs the plausible deniability that TJ was the best Iowa State can do. I understand his ties to the university and his previous recruiting success as an assistant, but his resume as a HC has him in the running for exactly one job, and it's the one being selected by his friend. If Pollard doesn't get the basic idea that he needs to have the narrative that it was an exhaustive search that ended up with TJ as the best fit at the bare minimum, I worry about the future.
