If Otz wants a quick rebuild he can hire Pat Chambers as an assistant and bring the 6 best players from Penn State over in a package.
Why do you think it has to be one or the other?ok, let’s say you think JP needs to go. You really think trashing him on a message board is going to work? Better to lobby donors or stop donating or buying tickets. Message board trashing accomplishes nothing except making yourself and our fan base look trashy.
Who would you rank him above? So we liked to rank Prohm among the Big 12 coaches as we talked about how bad he was.
Where are we ranking TJ? 5th? 4th?
Who would you rank him above?
He’s solidly 10 until he proved otherwise.
This is a bad hire after going through a full search. This is a horrible hire when the position has been open for 24 hours.

UNLV coach T.J. Otzelberger headed for Iowa State
UNLV basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger is leaving the program to take the job at Iowa State, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation.www.reviewjournal.com
Welcome, T.J. - Let's bring back Hilton Magic!
If true, I wonder is some of leakers would be the UNLV players, assume TJ told them first...which would be the right thing to do.
Head Cyclone football coach Brian Kelly says this is legit
Terrible unexciting hire. Obviously this was baked in the cake for a long time. Not impressed at all....sigh...
I would take Penn State's interim coach over here as the top assistant. Those guys were physical and played tough D. Didn't back down from anyone. If Otz wants a quick rebuild he can hire Pat Chambers as an assistant and bring the 6 best players from Penn State over in a package.
I think TJ can get it turned around quicker than most due to familiarity and recruiting chops.
I’d love a home run hire that I felt totally sure would work out. The reality is we’re looking for a new coach along with Minnesota and Indiana and in the middle of the financial hit from the pandemic coming after going winless in the conference. Not exactly the sort of trifecta you’re hoping for.
TJ had the recruiting chops. I’d rather not have to hold my breath for assistants to handle the Xs and Os, but it is what it is. Realistically we were probably going to get a coach that was great at one or the other with what we can spend right now.
Why do you think it has to be one or the other?
I’m retired- plenty of time to do both. And you do realize there are ticket buyers here?
We need to think bigger than JP to be honest. He’s likely gone within a decade anyways.
