Would you give up the 2019 Big 12 tourney championship if it meant Prohm didn't get the extension and we swiped Fred before he signed with Nebraska? The answer is yes
Hindsight is 20/20 and we'd all take basically any other coach knowing what the last two years look like.
I also don't blame the extension. Prohm had success and had other schools coming after him
In hindsight a very costly victory indeed. It masked the collapse of the program that was well underway at that point.
I don’t love Moser offensively but love him as a coach and defensively. He’s built Loyola into a Top 25 team and has a final four under his belt. At Loyola.
This search is going to leave a lot of people unsatisfied if coaches like Moser, Davries, TJ, etc aren’t “acceptable” to a section of the fan base. Each of them would be good hires and better than our current coach.
If you count a transfer year where he sat out, yes, this is Jenkins 2nd year. Not sure I like his game. Hamilton and Diong are the two that played at UNLV last year.
Agree the roster is poorly constructed. That needs to improve, probably easier to do that here.
I guess I saw different issues when I watched UNLV. I saw an offense that was heavily reliant on players one-on-one efforts. Reminds me of Prohm and Hoiberg offenses.
He played some freshman, but TJ's big 3 players were Juniors and Seniors (Jenkins, Hamilton and Diong). The big issue I saw is TJ's big 3 were VERY inconsistent. One game Hamilton or Jenkins could score 30 pts. The next night 8.
Their complimentary players were transfers: Wood, Grill and Del Cadia.
I would love if TJ's UNLV's teams played better ball this year, because of his strong ISU ties. But after watching UNLV's games, I have my doubts if he can get ISU back to the NCAA's.

His roster is poorly constructed at UNLV? That's no surprise considering he was part of the GMAC administration almost 15 years ago that admitted to underestimating what type of player to recruit at ISU. So improvement goes without saying however it seems his learning curve is a bit flat. And I doubt a simple change of scenery to a much tougher conference is going make that job easier to do. So I don't know exactly where that came from. Keep up the good fight however. You seem just like the plethora of GMAC groupies that were here years ago telling us all about "trust....patience....integrity" while he....and TJ were having a hard time beating anyone not named Colorado or Nebraska for four straight years.
Edit: He needs to stay right where he is and show everyone that he can actually build something on his own. Then maybe in 4/5 or whatever years depending on how the next ISU coach does.......he can come back and get his dream job. But not now because frankly.....he has done nothing to deserve it.
Weren't there rumors he might be going to Alabama? Don't remember if it was before or after the Big 12 tournament that year but if we're going to play this game, I'd give up the Big 12 tournament championship that year if it means Prohm goes to Alabama and ISU ends up with Nate Oats.
All of that is true, but I have a hard time thinking 33 days off in the middle of the season, regardless of who is there, wouldn't be tough to recover from. Especially with so many new players that had not played together, and had no off season time to gel. Definitely inconsistent, for sure.

Not sure where the groupies came from, but whatever, dude. We can disagree on TJ. I think he'd be a good fit here, better than at UNLV.
Have no problem disagreeing. Stay at UNLV and build something on your own. I'll leave this at Paul Rhoads was considered a good "fit" with his passion and love for ISU. Good guy......but ISU can do better, should do better and did do better.
I mean, we still hired him.
And it wasn't a total loss. He built something. Couldn't quite get there, but he is part of the reason we are at where we are at.
Just a reminder: TJ has has exactly ONE recruiting class under his belt at UNLV.
ISU was on the most successful run in their history and they best coach they could get was Prohm. A coach who had been to exactly one NCAA tournament. What makes you think ISU can do better than TJ now that the program is in bad shape?
