Because he wants to leave as well. Resigning looks much better than being terminated. His wife has been unhappy for awhile now so they are ready to get out of dodge. It is not always completely about $$$

I get what you are saying but disagree.

Resigning in my eyes looks worse, like you are admitting you can't handle this level. That's not a good look for future employers.

He wouldn't unless Pollard has some pictures of him kissing up to some coeds on a road trip or something that none of us know about. Some people on here are living in fantasy land.
BS as he is well aware that he didn’t get the job done and the fit for both parties is not there any longer. This is quite common.

I've been hearing all this same exact stuff you've been posting today as well.

He won’t be coaching at the P5 level again most likely. He will do what GMac did except Greg started looking much earlier than Prohm.

I haven't been impressed with Devires timeout usage when the game has been on the line.
I'd take Devries in a heartbeat but I thought he could have used his timeouts a little better when it was obvious his offense was out of sync. They had a horrible shot in regulation for the win then two straight shot-clock violations in OT.

Some coaches just prefer to let them play through it I guess.

I was listening to the Drake post-game and Devries addressed his time out usage. He said he screwed up and should have called a TO. He regretted not doing so but the outcome was favorable.

Yep, he's just going to give up millions to "look better", even though everyone would know he got fired regardless. Like I said, fantasy land.

There are a lot of people who claim his wife isn't happy here and hasn't been for some time. Then you have CW saying Steve loves it here and if it were up to him he would work here his whole life and retire from ISU. So which is it? I can't see a husband saying that if mamma ain't happy.

Steve hasn’t said that in quite some time as he is 5-24 in conference the last two seasons. When the pitchforks come out it put stress on all involved, and wives don’t want that being part of family life....plus they built a house 10 minutes from the Murray State campus....they are ready to go home.

So you're saying he's going back to Murray State?

Yet, he still won the game without his leading scorer. If you base our coaching search on timeout usage, we are in trouble. Devries would be a great hire. If we don't grab him, some other P5 team will.

Yeah, it's a tough call for a coach. You want to get a good shot off but you don't want to put your team in an impossible situation either by leaving them with 2 seconds left on the shot clock.

Then that's not resigning, that's firing. Prohm has all the leverage. Not sure why he would even meet in the middle, but again maybe people are banking on him being a really nice guy. That would be really nice of him to leave half his contract behind.
He is not going to leave money behind, however often contract settlements are paid back over several years.

There are professional athletes who are paid for years after their buyouts are made.

That said sounds like there is more than enough to buyout Steve and buyout the contract of a desired candidate to get him to come here.

The only thing to be "negotiated" would be the length/term at which Steve's contract is payed out. If anyone thinks he's giving the University a sweetheart deal to avoid being "fired" is a bit gullible.

It all depends what is considered a “sweetheart deal”. He won’t get full buyout.
