Did it help or hurt us not playing the Hawksters? It is obvious to me ... I vote it is time to Direct Exchange Iowa for another P5 game. That way...we can let all of their mouth breathing fans pound sand as we sail above them in the Top Ten.

I think it hurt not playing them, a loss to Iowa is still better than a loss to. Sunbelt team.
Granted it didn't matter, but had we won the Big12 we might not have gotten in because of that loss.
I enjoy the cyhawk rivalry, just wish we'd win it a few times

Not saying get rid of it completely. But would be cool to start a Home/Home with another P5 from say the ACC/PAC 12/SEC. For example, in a 10 year period, play the Hawks 6 times, have a home & Home with a ACC and another Home and Home with a PAC 12 school sprinkled in for the other 4.

That Sunbelt team finished 10-1, with a bowl win, and will likely be ranked above the Hawkeyes in the final poll.

Get rid of it. Lose/lose situation for us. I'd much rather play an SEC team and get credit for winning than risking the chance of losing to a Big Ten West team

Ha!

Eveyone needs to get over themselves. If both programs stay relevant, it’s an awesome game and series. For both schools and the state.

Nobody would care if we beat Oregon State.

******* bury them for the next decade. We certainly still need to prove we can.

You are saying the exact same thing as Hawk fans 5-10 years ago when we were beating Iowa with regularity. I sure hope success hasn't created the same mentality among ISU fans as we historically have seen in Hawk and Nebraska fans!

IMO the ISU v. Iowa game is a great rivalry game for the state. Plus, Iowa is consistently a top 25 team and provides a great non-conference opponent to prepare ISU for Big12 play. Plus, a win over a top 25 Iowa team looks good to the national media when rankings are determined.

I think ISU has always had a solid formula in our non-conference schedule to prepare ISU for Big 12 play:
  1. Play a solid P5 opponent in Iowa
  2. Play a FCS team like UNI or Dakota team
  3. Play a MAC, MWC or WAC team
A good, better, best approach to teams we face in non-conference.

Obviously if ESPN or FOX find ISU an attractive storyline, then we tweak the good/better teams to play a top 10ish team.

But we will never play a top ten as long as Iowa is there.

We always have a strong SOS and competitive schedule. The lack of variety leaves a little to be desired is all. If you are going to drop a regular on the schedule it should be Northern Iowa. The Hawkeyes have more value.

Get rid of this game. Hate it and it does nothing for either school anymore.

Both fanbases excuse the game the behave like idiots and it is freaking annoying and embarrassing. The game has outlived its purpose. Time to cut it and play 3 simple non conf games which is a struggle for us already.

This was the best fall ever without that God forsaken game

It's annoying how many people (on both sides) think that showing you care about the rivalry means that you lose the trash talk - as if the fanbase that cares less must have the better team.

Yes, I want to beat Iowa because they are our rival and it's fun to win rivalry games like that - the biggest sporting event in terms of casual fans paying attention in the state. No, the Cy-Hawk Game isn't going anywhere. And no, losing to Iowa doesn't mean that our season is bound to be a disaster anymore. We aren't going 4-7 and hanging our hats on one game in September these days like we were in some of the McCarney era or even as recently as the Rhoads era in 2014.

If we beat Iowa this September, and we should, I'll be very happy about it - certainly more than if we beat [Random Non-Conference P5 Team of Equal Quality to Iowa] instead. And if we lose, it sucks like a loss but we will still have everything in front of us with a legitimate chance at winning the Big 12.

I'd like a 2 on 2 off scheduling situation with iowa. The 2 off would be home and home against other p5 in the area like minnesota, illinois, missouri etc. Give the players that live in those areas a chance to play at "home"

It will never happen because most teams are scheduled out for the next 15 years.

We could just as easily play home-and-homes with Minnesota and Illinois instead of the series we have lined up in the coming years with Arkansas State or Tulane (although I am looking forward to an excuse to go to New Orleans).
