Question for Ducks fans - does your DL stunt much? We seem to have lots of problems picking up stunts. Straight blitzes we do okay with, but when DE/DT cross each other our OL/RBs have a hard time picking it up. That's my biggest concern. Seems like lots of free runners to the QB come from DE looping down to the A gap while a 3Tech crashes into the tackle.

Good edge rushers are also a problem for our tackles, guys who can get up the field then quickly flatten and turn the corner. That's caused a few of our false starts this year as tackles are trying to get a fast kick step.

I'm sure this will be a close game. Most of our games against good opponents are close and I view UO as a good opponent. I don't think either team wins by 10+ unless there is a late/"meaningless" score. Though ISU may go down by 10 to 14 at some point in the first half. We are a second half team for the past couple years now. As long as it's close at halftime, I will feel good about ISU's chances.

We have two active boards. The 247 is pretty hot. Scoopduck is insane. If I don’t check it for half a day, it takes me two days to catch up.

OU committed bodies to stop the run on 1st and get ISU into obvious passing situations. Then they gave us fits stunting and rushing only 3 and 4. They also kept a spy on Purdy a fair amount. ISU got yards and some big plays, but Purdy was on the run and uncomfortable.

BYU has been and is higher than Oregon and Oregon State academically, and U of U. Given Utah joining, state laws don't seem relevant. BYU also had a better athletic program at the time. I guess that leaves religion.

If population mattered, why wouldn't you have a Big 10 deal already?

The academic point was about Boise State. They were a junior college up until like 50 years ago. They’re not even in the realm of the lowest Pac-12.

As an FYI university presidents and academic bigwigs don’t use magazine rankings as their arbiter of academic prestige. AAU membership is much more important to them. Both of the newest additions, Utah and Colorado, are members.

As for BYU - there is no way. The Sunday non participation is one thing, but their policies on things like LGBT+ rights make it a non starter.

The Pac-12 would be getting more TV revenue if it wasn’t run by nincompoops, just securing a DirecTV deal would have made a huge difference. If they would have sold all rights to ESPN/Fox/CBS it would have raised the most revenue. As for population, while I agree it won’t be as big of a factor going forward it still is supremely important. The Big Ten has the most, it’s not that their fans are more passionate than the SEC. Rutgers wasn’t added for their athletics.

For the future the Big-12, with fewer people in the footprint than California alone, might be in trouble. Whatever UT-Austin does the rest will have to hope they’re included.

There have been rumblings that USC would consider going independent, but unlikely. Oregon and Washington fans have talked about the Big Ten, which also seems unlikely. Although more possible than in the past, since both are no longer obligated to stay with their little brother school.

Back to football: I watched the WVU game at all someone’s behest, and in addition to that I’ve seen the Louisiana Lafayette game, both Oklahoma games, and condensed versions of Texas and Okie St. I didn’t watch it all 22 style, just casually with very few rewinds and usually while occupied - so it’s very possible I missed a lot.
That WVU team is slooow. Half of their guys look like they have cast iron cleats. Oregon will bring a lot more speed. Oregon’s team speed is more comparable to Oklahoma or.

The first Oklahoma game is really sloppy. Oregon has also been sloppy at times. The corners and deep safety for Oregon are the strength of the defense, I don’t see them allowing so many long pass plays like Oklahoma did. But I also don’t see Tyler Shough being anywhere near as accurate as Rattler. Even that great interception by ISU in the end zone was the type of throw Shough can’t make: the other cover guy would have picked it as an underthrow.

When ISU is on offense this what I’ll be looking for:
1. Oregon pressure. Oregon’s coverage has been pretty decent, but they’ve allowed too much time for QBs in half the games. I expect ISU to use more quick passes and also use that big TE Kolar to find soft spots. Timing is key to that passing offense and either Thibodeaux or the blitzes from #1 Sewell, #41 Slade-Matautia, or #47 Funa can really disrupt that.
2. Iowa State interior OL. If they can push around the NT and DT for Oregon it will make Breece Hall have a huge game. The last two years it’s been a strength for Oregon but early this season it’s been a weakness. Hall is a workhorse and if he can churn out gains of 6+ yards on a regular basis and keep the Cyclones ahead of the sticks to prevent obvious passing downs it will be a long day for Oregon.

Also, though BYU is ranked higher academically via the whacked out Us News and World Report, both CU and UU are members of the prestigious AAU. They both have top notch medical schools and generate 100s of millions in federal grant money. BYU can’t touch that and neither can Boise St.

No one is doubting BYU’s academic credentials. They are a non starter for the Pac-12. There is absolutely no way the Pac-12 presidents would consider them.

Yeah I understand that, I was just asking what UO fans thought. I'll have to ask some the next time I get a chance, mostly the ones I know don't think much beyond the current Pac-12.

My bad, I didn’t know you wanted a personal opinion. I don’t want BYU anywhere near the Pac-12 for the following reasons:
* Cultural fit. It’s important to most Oregon grads I know. T-shirt fans may not get it as much, but many would also agree.
* BYU doesn’t add a new market, just another mouth to feed and share California recruits with.
* Their fans are insufferable. 2020 has shown that. I prefer Washington and Oregon State fans. BYU’s combine the delusions of grandeur that UW has with the righteous underdog attitude of OSU.
* I preferred the Pac-10 to the 12, with a round robin like the Big 12 has now. Any expansion has to include Texas or its pointless to me.

They do seem to have an overinflated view of themselves. Are absolutely in love with their 247 recruiting rankings. And, think Chip Kelly revolutionized college football when in fact he got caught using the tried and true practice of using recruiting services to pay recruits. He got slapped with a show cause and Oregon with NCAA santions. But we are not suppose to talk about that.

Nobody really knows how good their team is. Pac-12 season was a diaster and they had multiple players sit the season out. Between the wildfires and COVID-19 the west coast has been through a lot this year.

They have a stud defensive end that earned 3rd team AP All-American honors (along side ISU's defensive end, Bailey). They have a minor QB controversy going on.

Both teams seem happy to be in the game and will be motivated to play.

Should be a good game.
