I think it is a big mistake to pass any sort of judgement on this team until a few games into the conference slate. They've had basically no off-season, and the preseason practices had so much injury they could barely go 5-on-5 at all. Plus, with the large freshmen component to this team, they need additional time anyway.

Based on yesterday, which isn't alot to go on, this looks like a 6-12 or 7-11 conference team to me. I liked the effort on the defensive end, but still tons of mistakes. We really need a true PG; I don't think Bolton is the answer there. Upper classmen need to step up - specifically Young and Conditt. Both looked relatively weak and timid pounding around down low; Dubar showed more grit than either of them. If the light turns on for Foster that would be a huge boost for us. Coleman-Lands looks like the anchor right now, but not a guy that can take over and drop 25 if needed.

Trust me JCL can explode if we need him to.

My prediction:
5-2 in non-conference
6-12 in Big 12 play

Losing Hinson for the season and Tre Jackson for extended time is not something this team could afford. Think I'm probably being a little generous in the non-conference too. South Dakota State and DePaul will be toss up games imo.

Just curious, isn't Tyler Harris supposed to be a point guard? Is he just better as a 2-guard or what are his strengths and weaknesses?

He's a shoot first guy. I think that's how he's best used anyway.

He's scored more than 25 exactly one time in a career spanning 112 games. Not saying it's impossible but you're outlook on this team is almost comically rosy so I'm not exactly inclined to trust you.

I think he’s better as an off guard. He can handle it fine, but I think his size hinders him when it comes to court vision and playmaking. The Donovan Jackson comp was good. Harris is a more fierce defender and seems to understand what he needs to do on that end to try to make up for a lack of size. I like him a lot already.

I like him already too, I will say he is a lot quicker and a lot more athletic than Donovan was at Iowa State. Although I'm not convinced Tyler Harris can shoot it as well.

Gott have a good outlook on things. 2020 has been a ***** might as well have some fun for a bit.

His flashy pass to Conditt was fun as well. I think we are going to have a lot of movement in this offense. I don't think a single player will be asked to initiate offense. We will see all of Bolton, Harris, and Johnson bringing the ball up at times. Going to be a really fun lots of movement offense. (Of course this is after watching them against a zone), we will learn more Wednesday.

What makes you convinced he can't shoot it well? Every shot he put up was on line. Normally a good indicator. shot 50% from 3 and 1 was blocked.

1 game is a small sample size, but that was not a good showing against a very bad team. Lots of mistakes on both offense and defense. Maybe they will gel with time, but yikes on the inside play in that first game.

Ah, I should have worded that a little better. I definitely think Tyler Harris can shoot the ball well. I’m not convinced he can shoot the ball as well as Donovan Jackson though. If he can, Harris will be an excellent player.

Its hard to compare because DJax got a lot of wide open looks based on who was on his teams.

I'm always the optimist, and we have a very good nucleus, IMO. If these guys stay healthy, and we don't miss a lot of the season with Coved cancelations, I think they have a great deal of potential.

I also think out pandemic protocols and the area of the country we're in, puts us in a better place than other schools/conferences at this time, (too bad the Chump can't take Gov. Trumpette when he goes, or we'd be in great shape!!!).

I think this is the year the CSP shows how good a coach he can really be...

It was a rough start against APB, but I would say a lot was first game jitters. Our outside shooting will be significantly better this year. We need Solo and Conditt to factors on offense and they need to rebound. Both are experienced bigs now. Jalen Johnson struggled, but I think he will play better. Unlike last year we should have competition for minutes. That should drive improvement.

We fell behind by 10, so take that away we outscored them by about 30. Not great but not bad.

I was encouraged on the Sunday podcast that Blum said that the staff had charted the team's shooting last year in practice and they always shot about the same in the games from 3---which was bad. So far this year they are shooting a lot better in practice. So I'm hopeful that it translates as well.

I don't remember exactly what the numbers were but I think it was 38% this year compared to 30% last year. If they can maintain that for the season that should be big.
