Any opinions on VW’s?
I loved how my VW Golf drove (TDI, 6 speed) but was not impressed with its reliability. Froze up on me at least twice when parked outside during cold weather. Had the sunroof shatter (that was a long argument with VW Corporate to get them to replace that). Had issues with the AC Pump. All occurred before 50K miles.
Plus it was involved with the Dieselgate recall. I sold it back.

... but I did love driving it.

I think I'm sold on a plug in hybrid (PHEV). Anyone else have experiences with any? Seems like the 2020 and 2021 models have a lot to choose from.
Not a plug in hybrid but there have been a bunch of rave reviews come out today on the 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid.

look at the Palisade/Telluride. there is a reason they are winning the comparisons head to head.

If you can find one. I'm really considering getting one but to get the one you like you either have to wait 6 months and/or pay $5k over MSRP. They are really nice but no way am I paying over sticker for a mainstream SUV. This is been my experience with The Kia Telluride, the Palisade is easier to get and actually seems a little nicer but the Kia is so much better looking.

Unless you buy a Jeep Wrangler. I think Jeep has intentionally left that vehicle a verifiable lemon. Owners like to swap stories about their breakdowns.
You are saying wranglers are lemons intentionally?

My neighbor has an Audi PHEV he uses basically to drive to work and back. If you don't drive that much and can drive mostly on the charge the gas mileage is insane. He told me he fills up about every 1,000 miles and it's a nice ride and everything.

we started looking at the Telluride last year, and after seeing them in person they just looked horrible.. the proportions on it just look off like the front is too low and wide while the rear is to tall an narrow. Stopped at Stew Hansens while we were back one weekend and seeing the Palisade we were sold on it over the Telluride. plus they had the trim in a color combo we wanted coming in on a truck in a few weeks as well. plus once you see this you can't un-see it..

Wife and I bought a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee in August 2013 and we haven't had any major issues. Easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. About to pass 110,000 miles.

It is time for her to update though and we've been leaning Toyota Highlander. This thread has all but finalized that decision, in my opinion, as many of you recommend Toyota. We are waiting until spring to make a trade. Wife wants to continue to drive the familiar, reliable vehicle through winter.

Get a consumer reports account and make a decision based on trends. I just bought a car that never would of considered as they've improved their reliability. I used to be a big believer in Japanese Cars, however, some of the models have fallen as far as reliability.

Love your screen name. I named my son after the great Carl Yastrzemski (middle name Yaz)! He’s an ISU alum. This isn’t you son is it?

My sister just purchased a 2021 Kia Telluride. Had to wait about three months to get it. They bit the bullet and bought it at about $2000 over MSRP. They couldn't convince themselves to go with the Palisade, but that was their second option.

Honda Accord. Best sedan on the market forever. Engine runs like a sewing machine and my 6 year old, 155 thousand mile car runs like new. If you are looking for a car you can't beat an Accord unless you spend a bunch more money.

Horsepower

2020 Toyota Camry = 203 to 301 depending on the engine and options

1965 Ford Mustang = 120 to 271 depending again on the engine/options

2020 Ford Mustang = 310 to 480 depending on options

Yeah, I know the '65 Mustang was likely lighter, but...

A higher-end Toyota Camry nowadays has more horsepower than did a classic pony car.

And the Camry is boring as hell to drive compared to that '65 Stang. That being said, it's hard to imagine that there are Camry models that would beat the Mustang GT zero to 60.

The Genesis is a beautiful, well made car, but....you'd best own stock in an oil company. They get the same mileage as an SUV.

The big thing about most cars today is...if you take care of them they will last a long time. My step-son is still driving my 2005 Ford Focus with about 220K miles on it. Showing some rust now and it's had its maintenance for worn out parts, but no reliability issues at all.

Lol. Spot on. I will not argue with the gas mileage on Genesis. It's not great, but that's not why I bought it, either.
