Possible Hot Take: End Zone Seating

This is not directed specifically at Jack Trice, but I hate sitting in or near the end zone at any football game. The main reason being it is very difficult to figure out whether or not we gained 4 yards or 1 yard on a play until I see it on the Jumbotron or the chain-gang move, especially when the ball is on the other side of the 50. I can sit in the corner of the upper deck and be further away but at least have perception of the whole field.

Not sure why more seats are even needed. Attendance is trending down everywhere. Better to have fewer seats that are actually full than spend money to build seats that will sit empty.

Yeah I had 1st row end zone tickets 1 season (sometime early 2000's) and the only time it wasn't bad was when the action was on that end of the field inside the 20 yard line because you could see the plays develop from an interesting angle but other than that I agree they suck because you have no depth perception once they get to mid field and beyond. A 1 yard run and a 10 yard run all look the same.

Say what you want about upper deck seating but feel the best seats for a FB game are the first few rows in the upper deck and closer to the 50 yard line. Mine the past few years have been about row 8 looking across the south end zone and I still don't find them to be bad seats. I've even had the chance to use sideline passes a few times over the years which is a cool perspective to be that close to the action but I did miss the view from above where you can see the entire field better. I'm sure everyone has their opinions on what the best seat in the house is but the end zone is one place I would rather never have seats in again if I am paying for them.

Years and years ago when there was no south end zone seating and just a chain link fence about 10 feet past the end zone I used to like to walk down and watch part of the game from the chain link fence to gain perspective on line play.

Yep, we did it the exactly right way. TBH I don't really hate the EZ seats.

Same thing...we are in row 24 of the EZ...it does start to suck when the team is past the 50 and moving away...but then again, the giant-ass TV helps with the perspective. Replays are good to, I just turn around and there are the 10 foot tall players.

I have always sat in the end zone, even as a student back in 1972- 1976. When they opened the gate for the students, we would run to get front row end zone seats. Maybe it is from years of watching this way, but I disagree on the perspective. I can tell pretty much exactly how far we gained on a play, but you do have to pay attention to details. Also, I like being able to see the line play from that angle, when a hole opens up I can start yelling before the running back even starts through it. On the other hand, I can see plainly when a play is going to go nowhere.

BTW, the way I can tell how far the ball is advanced, I make a mental note of what yard line the play starts on. Then I watch the play. As soon as the runner is down, I look at the line judge because he will be on the yard line where the play advanced to. So, if we start on the 40 and I see the line judge on the 44 after the play, we gained 4 yards. I mean, I can tell from watching the play that we appeared to gain 3 to 5 yards. But the line judge lets me narrow it down.

Actually my wife and I rarely drink at the games, I just really like the end zone view. Plus the indoor seating is nice for a break when it's really hot or cold outside. And checking out other games on all the big screens inside is a nice benefit. Smaller lines for food and bathrooms doesn't hurt either.

I prefer high seats to low seats no matter where I am. There's a bell curve and what row is the peak depends on end zone view or sideline view. End zone = even higher preference.

I have watched from the sky box 50 yard line. Ushers come and open up small windows at top before kick off to let in crowd noise. Obviously the view is good but from a distance and the environment is sterile. I prefer sitting outside, 20 rows or higher. Had 6 season tickets on the front row of upper deck on the 40 for years and they were great. End zone is not my cup of tea.

You really get a good view of why plays do or do not work that to me a side angle doesn't show.

I like upper deck between the 35s. My least favorite seats are lower bowl on the goal line. SEZ is fun because of the amenities, but I wouldn’t want to sit there every game.

My dad used to get our season tickets right beneath the press box. Way TF up there, but I still appreciated the wide-angle view of Troy Davis decimating all comers, plus my brother and I could burrow underneath the press box itself to get out of the freezing November and December winds. Those late 90s winters were cold AF.

I love endzone seats. We used to have seats in the old Field section of the south endzone. You actually get to see line play. But the best part was being able to sneak onto the field, go around the visitors bench, and watch the 2011 Oklahoma State overtime from the corner of the north endzone. Our field rush took 1 step.

Our seats are UD Row 4, on the 50. We've sat all over the stadium with mobile passes for two years. Can confirm that those are the BEST seats for being able to see the whole field well.

Our tickets are row 21 in the section to the right of the Suckup area, the seats are great when the action is coming towards you. You can see the holes opening up, and scoring plays right in front of you are great.
The downside is when they are on the opposite side of the field, depth perception is difficult, I tend to watch back and forth between the North scoreboard and the field when the play is moving to the North.
Endzone seats are not bad, but you have to be up at least 10 to 15 rows, sitting in the first 5 rows, you will spend half the game watching on the scoreboard.

I was spoiled in college when as a student we were able to purchase 50 yard line tickets in the upper deck which was the Section O. To this day I prefer the upper deck but my wife likes to be down low as she likes to see/hear the players on the sidelines. Her favorite part is when the sirens come on and the players run onto the field. She could care less about how a play develops...so our tickets are normally in row 8 about the 10 yard line on the NW corner. This year we were moved to the SW corner...not nearly the sideline action.
