Will the BIG10 Reverse Their Decision?

I actually like some of the schools/teams from there...just get tired of middle aged Bucky visor wearing guy swelling up about the B1G like it's the center of everything.

Ahhh....... nothing like another morning with the sweet sweet aroma in the air of the Big 10's dumpster fire of their own arrogance? Its like waking up to the smell of bacon and it seems like I'm waking up to eating bacon every morning now a days. Who could ask for more? Cheers everyone to hoping the Big 10 really digs their heals in on this thing for a lot longer so that we can all get fat and merry off of the never-ending hog.

Yeah, the singular focus on big 10 is definitely real. I'm sure it's in other states with only representatives of one P5 conference, but it was definitely a shock moving from Iowa.

And I agree. The only Big 10 teams I really dislike are Iowa and Nebraska, not a fan of Penn State, don't care at all about Rutgers and Maryland, and range between a little positive and very positive views for the rest of the schools.

Yeah and I have plenty of Wisky friends that like ISU just fine but still hold the B1G in higher regard than needed.

I also get a bit of the 'little ol' ISU' mantra because they don't know ISU by enrollment is the bigger school and not every town in Iowa is Iowa City.

There is really no scenario where the BIG comes out of this unscathed.
I can think of 21/2:
1) B1G manages to start in some fashion in early October, play enough games for playoff consideration, Ohio State becomes national champions, everyone completely forgets the B1G months of August and September because it's a blip in the horror of 2020.
2) B1G doesn't change anything, by early October nobody anywhere is playing football (and won't until fall 2021) due to COVID-19.
21/2 Something magical somehow happens with B1G playing in winter/spring 2021. (Can't quite imagine what this would be, but sometimes the utterly unpredictable happens.)

I spend a lot of time in Wisconsin, I am there now. I find it shocking how little many people here know about any other conference. All they seem to know is that the b10 is best at every sport. Also, how their league is tougher than any other league on the planet.

It is looking MUCH more likely that the Big12 will reverse IT'S decision and follow the Big 10. I think one or two games will be played, then the rest of the season will be suspended or cancelled.

28.8% of the Iowa State student and staff population has tested positive! That is a big %.

I find it interesting that the High Schools are playing and getting along relatively as normal. Appears that the NFL will play. Observed that Cedar Falls HS played in the Uni-Dome friday night but no Panthers forthcoming. Thoughts: 1- University decisions come down to one person and it is not the AD 2-NCAA following the Biden formula in the basement 3-I don't think the Big 12, SEC or ACC will follow the Big10 due to football in the south, which includes Texas and Oklahoma, is a birthright 4-If the mentioned conferences get thru September and with only 30 games or so available for TV and the $$$ windfall they will receive, I expect the Big10 will find a way to participate later this fall

Makes you think that the classes aren't the source of the community spread, doesn't it? Almost like college kids are doing things out of class that is making the problems on campus much worse. So if the athletics dept can keep the players from participating in those activities (good luck), maybe this can go on without issue?

Zero of 127 scheduled high school football games in Nebraska were cancelled due to COVID last week. Yes, there are cases in the schools, but they are contact tracing and isolated the students that do test positive or have close contact. It isn't hard...

No. 28.8% of students and staff who requested testing because they were symptomatic tested positive, not 28.8% of the student and staff population. Good grief.

Solid clarification.
But, a 28.8% positivity rate among that population is extremely alarming. Friends of friends in Syracuse NY said their positivity rate is less than 1%. The state of New York went through hell being the original ground zero in the US. They had to learn how to respond, and the medical community had to learn how to best treat the virus. They are now using 3% as the rate to determine if schools can conduct in class instruction. This thing can be controlled with leadership and discipline. Sadly, this state has neither.

Is out positivity rate here in Iowa higher because we've now started including the antigen testing, which is more accurate? (relative to other states that DON'T yet use it?)

I don't think enough antigen tests are being reported to really effect positivity rate much. Antigen tests only make up about 2% of reported testing.

I guess that depends on why you are getting the test. If ISU is only testing symptomatic people, then 28% should be expected. If NY is testing anyone and everyone that stood next to someone that might have looked sick one day, then 1% makes sense. It all depends on your criteria for obtaining a test, which is why the positivity rate is a poor metric for any sort of decision making. It works only if you can test the entire population or a random sample of the population. Neither is feasible.

Omaha sports say that if they start by October10, they would be elligible for the National playoffs. :D
