I finally get to use this useless trivia question.

When MASH first aired on CBS what was the previous show that had that time slot?

Had a spirited debate with the 10 year old on this topic last night. The better character on MASH?

Col Potter or Col Blake?
BJ or Trapper John?
Radar or Klinger?
Mai Burns or Maj Winchester?

The obvious right answers are Blake, Trapper, Radar, and Burns.

Potter over Blake, Blake was just another goof, Potter added a missing piece of regular Army to the show.

I love Mash and each character has their own mark on the show and the parts were written so well the transitions when 1 left and a new one was introduced was nearly seamless. Of all those characters probably the best acting job of them all was Larry Linville as Frank Burns I think.

As I said earlier "Frank Burns was one of the greatest comedic props ever."
He played that part so well.

Yeah, those would be my choices.

Also, Gonzo should be the only person who chooses Radar; Radar's a hawkeye fan.

He's also from Ottumwa, though that's a point of pride for me

wait, what? I thought I’d seen every episode, but don’t ever recall seeing/hearing this...

There was an episode where Billy, a former U of I, tailback was wounded and lost a leg. Radar said something to the effect he knew all about him.

I always liked Radar the most but I thought the move to make him more innocent and naive was a bad move.

In the movie and the earliest episodes, Radar drinks, smokes, etc. He's a scamp.

Most underrated character in television history.......Col. Flagg.

I loved Henry Blake. He would have been a perfect character for the movie, as Richard Hooker was wont to display the US military in all its dysfunctional glory. (And yeah, he was a doofus in the movie, too.)

Favorite Henry Blake line (from the TV show): He, Hawkeye, and Trapper are about to raise a glass in his office, and Henry offers a toast - "Here's looking up your old..... address."

I've used that dozens of times. Never fails to get a laugh.

Looking back at MASH now I'm amazed by all the cameo appearances or small parts played by actors that eventually became more memorable for their work later in their careers.

Ned Beatty
Blythe Danner
Brian Dennehy
Andrew Dice Clay
Ron Howard
Shelby Long
Leslie Nielsen
John Ritter
Patrick Swayze
Jeffrey Tambor
Joan Van Ark
George Wendt
Bruno Kirby
Ed Begley
Joe Pantoliano
Rita Wilson
Mike Henry
