Crazy gas prices

Ankeny and Altoona have always been 20-30 cents cheaper than the rest of Des Moines, even going from Johnston to Ankeny.

Why? I have no idea.
Someone I know is friends with someone high up at Casey's. When asked why gas is always cheaper in Ankeny then the rest of the metro he said it was Sam's Club and Fleet Farm are always trying to out do each other with prices and it brings the price down in the whole area.

I've heard that too. I've always thought it was odd because Sams doesn't advertise their price like other stations, so I'm not sure why FF felt the need to match them (not that I'm complaining). I'll be curious to see what the Waukee FF does when they open.

Originally, the lower prices were limited to the SE side of town (near the FF and Sams), but seems to have spread to the rest of the town in the past year or so. That's about when Kwik Star showed up, so I assume they are helping too.

Crazy in southern California is that they've stayed exactly the same. 3.30 before the oil prices went down, 3.30 now. No change at all.

Not that I'm even buying any.

I am seeing the same thing in AZ. We have dropped a little, but not like other parts of the country. I keep seeing gas close to a buck, and I am waiting for that to happen here. I don't think I will get that lucky though.

Kwik Star currently showing $1.09 on Gasbuddy while Fleet Farm and Sams are $1.07.
Des Moines area still averages $1.67. At what point does this become price gouging or are gas stations not subject to that?

At those prices, they won't be gouging too many.

I paid $2.30 on Friday in Scottsdale AZ. While that is high for most in the country, that is absolutely insane to see around here.

1.67 in Des Moines today. It’s great but sucks at the same time as I’m barely driving anywhere recently.

1.35 in Amana here from the noon hour. We are usually about 20 cents higher than the other SW Cedar Rapids stations.

What really sucks is these great gas prices and you can not go anywhere. What a great time to go on a long road trip! I guess I have a friend that bought a camper and is traveling from FL to CA and back. $1 a gallon gas is working well for her.
