We want your help in choosing the greatest Iowa State men's basketball game of the last 40 years (or basically since Johnny Orr got to Ames). The bracket has 64 games chosen and seeded by our selection committee (aka @khaal53).

The bracket regions will be released in this order:

Thursday - Niang Regional (2010s)
Friday - Grayer Regional (1980s)
Monday - Fizer Regional (2000s)
Tuesday - Hoiberg Regional (1990s)

Details on how to vote, how long voting will last for each round, etc. will be included in the article on Monday and the first round of voting will open Tuesday morning when I put out the fourth article. We'll be doing re-watchable podcasts for some of the games as well so if you have any specific selections then let us know and we'll do it, assuming the full game is on YouTube, which many of them are.

Hope you guys enjoy this. Figured we might as well relive some happy memories during these not so happy times.

Wow, some really solid games in there. Only one I didnt see was the one where we beat a top ranked OU. Only major games that didnt even get an honorable mention I can think of were the Spangler game in the Big 12 tournament and the @BYU game.

Was also stunned that the OU comeback(we played a lot of good games against them huh?) was only a 9 seed but there's so much going on in that regional I have a hard time hating it

The win over No. 1 OU is the 13 seed. It was pretty crazy to look at the list and see some of the ones that didn't make the cut but then you start looking at the ones that did and it's hard to argue too much. I can list some of the others that didn't make the cut in here if you guys want them.

As a 2013 grad I had a front row seat to the end of the Mcdermott era and the start of the Hoiberg era. Reading this list really reinforced what Fred did for this program.

Overall I would say it’s a pretty good list of 16 games for that decade. I have had season tickets since Fred’s second season as coach, so I’ve witnessed basically all of the home games on this list in person.
I would change two things:
1) I would put the 77-70 win over Michigan on this list. At the time ISU was unranked, and they were going up against the 7th ranked team in the nation... one that had played in the national championship the year before. Melvin Ejim was not expected to play, but he pulls a Willis Reed and plays a huge role in the win. Having Johnny Orr and Dickie V in attendance was awesome. After this game I feel like the Cyclones were in the top 25 for quite a while, so this really put them on the map.
2) I would move the 77-70 comeback win over Oklahoma up the list. Top 5 easy. The sustained loudness of Hilton during the entire second half of that game is like no other sporting event I have ever been to.
3) Having said all of that, I think the #1 seed game against North Carolina should win this region.

One more thing, Melvin Ejim’s 48 point, 18 rebound game against TCU should get an honorable mention.

Grayer Regional looks good. Lot of good memories -- I was at ISU and attended the bulk of those at Hilton.

The #1 seeded game occurred the day I graduated from ISU (but I didn't have tickets, had to watch on TV :()

One of my on-the-bubble nominees would be Iowa State 82, Michigan State 80 (Dec. 14, 1985).

I don't think I've ever enjoyed an article more. Highlights from the top 16 MBB games during the time I've been in Ames! Almost too much to handle at once. Needs a Viagra-like disclaimer about a 4-hour erection!
