Well, a 9.9 and 9.95 on floor helped, but we still lost 196.425 to 196.225. Not even a hint of CyHawk victory yet this year, right?

We won tennis for the first time in forever (44 years). Other than that we got smoked in 2019-20. The "home" team almost always wins overall but not this year.

My wife used to travel regularly for work, and I was basically told to buck up and deal with it when I would even slightly complain about being left home with very young kids. She would tell me how they would eat amazing food at either a hole-in-the-wall or fancy restaurant and complain about being hung over from too much at the bar. I finally told her I didn't want to hear about how much fun she was having while I'm working my tail off at home with grouchy kids who miss mommy. You would have guessed the world about ended when I got home from a conference the one time I traveled for my job. Of course I was in the doghouse for pointing out she now knows what its like when she's travelling.

rubbing it in while out is a bit much, I agree. While I was gloating about getting my first full night of sleep in..........a long ass time, DH threatened to send me a wakeup call. We joked that I'd get a fire alarm or something to keep me from sleep. I freaked out on Wed night when not one but TWO separate people (one hotel employee and person we were meeting with who had STAYED THERE OFTEN) indicated that the hotel was believed to be ******* haunted. I was like come at me ghosts, I'm getting my sleep.

Well shucks that wasn't what we wanted. The Hawks pretty much owned us this yr. Oh well onto next fall.

Hey @cowgirl836 and @WooBadger18 volleyball has a scrimmage against UW tomorrow. Not sure if it is open to the public but worth checking out.

They are usually open, went to the Cyclone/Gopher one two years ago here in Mpls. Think we played Wisc, or maybe Illinois, in a match the night before in Manchester. Those matches were close and competitive, this one won't be. We got smoked by Creighton in our last match and this is the #2 team in the country, only lost to the juggernaut that was 2019 Stanford.

It was worse than that. In the words of R. Lee Ermey, Iowa didn't even give us the common courtesy of a reach around this season.

We aren't that good at anything right now other than men's cross country and our national champ is graduating. Women's cross country is down, one great runner and than not much. Football is good only if judged by old ISU standards that anything better than 6-6 is good. WBB is so so, barely Top 50. MBB, no comment needed. Gymnastics is at least ranked but could not beat Iowa. Golf used to make a splash once in a while in the NCAA's. VB is done as a contender and just strives to squeak into the NCAA's. I don't sense much that is trended up. ISU sports depress me. :(

We went to one in Mt. Vernon against Illinois a few years ago. Was nice to see it free and open to the public for youth and fan engagement.

So longtime Cedar Rapids anchorman Bruce Aune is retiring after more than 50 years in the business and 34 at KCRG. So they got him a limo to bring him from home to work and he had them stop at Jimmy Johns.

I worked at a restaurant several years ago in C.R. and he would come in there occasionally. It looked like a page right out of Anchor Man and the staff would run around quoting the movie.

Since he shaved his mustache he isn't quite as anchorman like but it was still there in our hearts.

Well this was supposed to be a nice productive weekend. Instead MrsWx had a gallbladder attack and she is currently in surgery to have it removed.

Yikes, that sucks. :(

Hopefully routine enough to go laparoscopic. With this and her other surgery she should at least get some extra credit in the nurse curriculum IMHO. Hoping all goes super well.

Quasi similar--when I camp up north there's typically a strong chance that a black bear could wander through, and I used to be really paranoid about it but at some point it's just 'whatever, my food is hung up, please just stay out of my tent so I can sleep'.

Few years ago a buddy said he could hear me go right back to snoring after this sound woke us up. Likely a fox which are harmless, but just a tad unsettling.

The lack of turnover at KCRG has been pretty amazing.

Aune, Campbell, Joe Winters, et al.

KWWL also seemed to always have the same staff.

KGAN seemed to have new people about every 2 months back in the day.

The amazing thing is. Back when Bruce started KCRG was the market bottom feeder. Partially due to his leadership but also as you mentioned the personalities of Bruce, John and Denny they became the market leader and dominant in the areas south of Highway 20 (KWWL always has and always will rule that portion of the market). They did a good job of investing in the station as well and the helicopter although expensive was a true asset and something that viewers loved.

KGAN...I think they are doing better now but when I interned at KCRG they were consistently getting a 0 rating. They also pulled some very low blows on KCRG that it took near legal action to get them to stop (literally copy and pasting web stories was one). I admittedly never watch them.

She was supposed to have a final and a couple other tests this week so she is upset with that but we will work through it. Better now than in three weeks when she is in clinical, those are nearly impossible to make up.

Randoms:

You wonder why I prefer to hang out with peeps younger than me? Age peer friends texted me about going out for supper. At 4 ******* 30.

I am not 80 for crying out loud, so no I'm not eating that early. I really do worry about them. They even played the daylight saving time thing on me and how we lose an hour tonight. Good grief, I live in perpetual jet-lag because of my odd hours anyway. Two nights ago I went to bed a little before midnight. Last night more like 2:30. Spring forward, don't think I'll notice much.

Might be able to bike tomorrow. Neighbor gal wants to pull her bike out of hibernation and I might join her in my hybrid. She won't be riding her road bike, if she was I KNOW I'd never keep up with her. On road bikes there is no way I'd keep up her. Think she is, or at least was, one of those 20 mph cruisers.
