Strictly just went off percentage. I didn’t dive deep into the rest of the stats. Just think some are setting themselves up for disappointment with their expectations of Foster for his freshman year.
Conditt doesn't get his feet set very well, and he relies on his athletic ability a little too much still. He likes swatting at shots versus establishing a good defensive position. Opposing teams have figured out that they can basically run into him and draw a foul because he's rarely set and brings his arms down on the shooter.
I understand your point and definitely agree he will need time to develop. However, hoping he has a similar/higher impact as Mike Jacobsen is not exactly a high ceiling. If we were hoping he’d be a 7 foot Niang right away, then hopes are too high.

No. Foster is not a 4. Neither was Jacobson and I can guarantee you that a Senior Jacobson would be way better at playing the 4 than a Freshman Foster.
Maybe I didn't word that clearly. Jacobson isn't a 4 even though he was forced to play it this year. He is an undersized 5.
If you think Foster is going to be playing the 5 and banging on the inside you are in for a rude awakening.
Foster will absolutely be a 4 offensively for us next year. That's why I've said in the past I look forward to seeing him pared with Young and Conditt with the small ball 4s.
The big question is if he can guard the 4 spot next year. I don't think he can yet. It would be cool to see some zone variations with Foster and Conditt though.
If Yong plans to be a pro he needs to improve guarding away from the basket. Perfect pair up with Foster.

I doubt Foster will be a plus defender game 1, but his athleticism and length should be a better fit than Jacobson has been this year. Not to knock on Mike the effort is there but he just doesn't have the speed to effectively guard many PF's in the Big 12.
Prohm will want his PF to be a threat from 3 (thus forcing MJ there, SY and GC are strictly C's) and XF has shown he has the ability, though once again it may take some time for him to adjust to Big 12 defenders and longer 3pt line. I expect Xavier to get the PF starting position and let him play through the expected struggles, much like Tre this year.
I would like to see us use more zone on defense when using Foster as a 4, especially with Conditt.
Young has improved his lateral speed and hand speed significantly this year which would lead me to believe he could possibly guard a 4 and on offence play the 5 if you go man instead of zone.

Young can be a pro next year, if he chooses, with no improvement. He won't be an NBA pro, in any year.
I'm guessing Solo will be doing most the dirty work down low next yr. Solo can body them up and Conditt and Foster can collapse and help.
