Has anyone close to the program heard how Javon Johnson looks in practice?
(Transfer from Troy sitting out this year)

Not sure there is much out there about him as the staff doesn't generally talk or even get asked about sit out players until after the season.

I did see him respond to a Halsted tweet last week.

@AlexHalstedIt'll be interesting to see what gains Javan Johnson makes during his sit-out season in 2019-20. As a freshman he shot 43.8 percent from 3. That number fell to 35.3 percent last season, but his volume doubled. One pro is Iowa State gets him on the court for two seasons.

@javan_johnson1 will be back at 40+ next year

JJ will have a case for B12 NCOY if he hits above 40% from 3 next year with his size and handle combo (very Clyburn-ish game IMO). I know Goodman listed him as one of his top 50 transfers last year and the scout he talked to said Javan has pro potential. He should be a good contributor to the team next year.

Way up there
Even if he shoots 35.3 from 3 he'll have a better percentage than everyone on this years team other than TH. If he shoots above 40 then watch out.

To me, he's an exciting player because he actually adds an athletic player to fill the four in a four guard lineup. I think that is something this team really lacks. Plus adding shooting.

Will he play the 4? His highlights make him seem like a 2 guard than a 3/wing. I guess it all depends on how he can guard but watching the tape, I just don't see it. Seems like people just read he's 6'6 and assume he'll fill that spot.

these clyburn comps are bugging me already. will avg 17 and 9 at Utah, and javan is coming from troy, where he put up 10 and 4.

35% at troy is not going to translate to 35% in the b12.

hopefully he's making nice strides in practice.

Somewhere between Lucious and Chris Allen level impact IMO

PRPG!

Clyburn = 3.7
Allen = 2.6
Lucious = 2.5

For comparison with this year --

Haliburton = 5.8
Bolton = 3.2
Young = 2.2
Conditt = 2.0
Lewis = 1.4
Jacobson = 1.4
Nixon = 0.8
Griffin = 0.7
Jackson = -0.2
Grill = -0.4

So basically he would be a solid starter in the Big 12.

He would be an upgrade over Lewis and Griffin on the wing.

Yeah his highlights do kind of seem like that, but for next years team specifically I think he'll play at the four and also probably the 3 a lot with Tre and Bolton filling up the 1 & 2. I also guess it depends on what kind of minutes the freshmen coming in get and a potential grad transfer.

On this years team I think he'd be playing at the four.
