Since you are flying into DSM, here are my recommendations:
I'd say highest quality is Miyabi 9
I'd say the most fun/bustling place is Sakari
A great compromise is Wasabi or Akebono
 
Have to leave the Des Moines/Ames metro to find good sushi in Iowa. Couple spots in Cedar Falls, Sakura and the Stuffed Olive which doubles as a killer martini bar.

Sakari is so fkn good.

I've never been to Miyabi 9, tho.

Fact is him seeming to be there for so long and looking older than he is was the only real jab fans could take at him.

Was a great college player and I don't recall anything to not like about him. Bonus points for when he gave props to Niang and ISU in the '94 feet' segment.

I like Wasabi better then Sakari. Haven't been to Akebono or Miyabi. Blue is good in Omaha, but haven't been to the DSM one yet.
 
I thought this was gonna be an easy decision but I guess not, Lmao. Y’all are really making this hard for me ‍
