CFB Playoff Rankings

Shocking that they screwed over the Big 12 again.

Why do AD’s decide this anyway? You really think Barta knows which teams are good and which ones aren’t?

tOSU above LSU immediately tells you what a joke this thing is. tOSU’s best win is against Cincy, and LSU has 2 wins against top 15 teams.

I guess actual results on the field don’t matter.
I personally liked the BCS model - maybe just needed tweaking but instead of fixing/enhancing it it gets thrown out and replaced with opinion.

According to my "eye test" I think Ohio State is #1. But I hate the idea of using the eye test to rank teams. LSU deserves to be #1 with the wins they've had.

Eye test just means "oh okay let me throw out all objective data and just let me pick who I think is the best" What a metric...

Agree, higher than I anticipated. I didn't foresee Oklahoma State in the 25, either. Tells me if ISU had beaten OSU, we would've been in.

I've ISU beats any one of the 3 teams we lost to we would be in. Always a bridesmaid.....

Hopefully we can make some noise these last 4 games and still have a great season. Of course then the what-ifs are really going to hurt!

Agree, any one of the 3. Losses to (12) Baylor (18) Iowa (23) OSU. ... obviously if ISU had beaten any of those, the opponent ranking would be lower, so those are only guideline placements.

When I saw KSU ranked that high, I figured that would bode well for OU, somewhat. I guess OU's detriment is quality of wins. Texas dropping hasn't helped. And best non-conference opponent (Houston) is off the map.

4-9 is really screwed up in that poll. Not surprising that they are giving the Big XII little respect. Clemson should be higher and PSU has NO business being #4. Utah hasn't beaten anyone and lost to USC who isn't ranked. Not much of a path this year for the Big XII, although I do think OU is down a little this year.

Puts Clemson in a good position as they simply need to win out as two of the top 4 will have losses by the end of the season. And, while I'm sure Baylor taking at least one loss, they still are a player for the final position if they stay undefeated. Wouldn't that be another punch to the PAC 12...

The real fun begins if all the undefeated teams take hits...

If Iowa State would have beaten the Pokes we would be closer to 15...

The problem I have is that the committee can't just pick and choose when SOS matters so that it fits their agenda. Why is Clemson at 5 and Baylor 12? Clemson's SOS is 64 and BU's is 65. Both Oregon and Utah being ahead of OU is ridiculous.

My other big takeaway is Wisky at 13 just reaffirms the "prop up the B1G" agenda we've seen over and over. The 4 team playoff is nothing but a money grab.

Three wins against top ten (at time of game) ranked teams. 9 Texas, 7 Florida, 9 Auburn.

And the SEC.

In the eyes of the committee:
Lose at Illinois = meh
Lose at home to South Carolina: meh
Lose at K-State = NO CAN DO

Just goes to show how important the preseason rankings (ie BIAS). Notre Dame had little business being ranked and are not that good. They only got ranked by being close to Georgia early who was ranked #3 at the time. They got trounced by an ok Michigan team and lost to a not very good South Carolina.

polls are pointless until, maybe, 2/3 weeks left in the year.

They are pointless but they are given a TON of weight by committees like this. The initial preseason poll is given a ton of weight. It will get better as we get towards the end but like we saw in 2014 it really screwed TCU / Baylor. Until schedules are evened out a bit this is not much of a playoff and just a glorified crowing among Elites.
