Should ISU start overselling student tickets?

I realize not every game is going to be a huge draw for the crowd and for students. But I have noticed the last couple games there is plenty of room for more students in particular.

I know they only sell the amount of tickets for the seats available for students for football, unlike they do for basketball, where the sell more than capacity and only allow so many scans in.
With student season tickets selling out so early, well before the school year, I assume we have the opportunity to sell more.

Then on game days, those days the student section may always be full or close to full, even when its a game where its not as big of a draw. Of course on the huge games there will be a line to get in just like in basketball, but this would not only help sell more student tickets, but also keep that section full during all the games.
All of this would increase fan excitement, game atmosphere, and future fans.

Of course I think we are also at the point where if we continue to improve, this section will continue to be full most of the time anyway, and also continue to out early. But there is always some people that can't come or don't come to all the games. Overselling, would at least allow for people to fill those spots.

We may need room for more student tickets in the near future too which I don't think is an option unless we oversell seats or expand the stadium, something I don't see on the horizon for a decade or so.

Its just a thought.

There were lots of seats in the stadium yesterday, not just in the student section.

Overselling tickets creates more problems than it solves.

This was not a shot at the student section, this was more of a possible missed opportunity. Are we missing the chance to allow more students to have a shot at coming. Also selling more student tix, which I realize is not a huge money maker, but still helps.

Does anyone know how many tickets they sell for basketball vs how many they actually let in. I just think of it in that way. Couldnt we think of it the same way. Why do we do it for Basketball but not Football?

Looked like Ohio State had quite a few gaps in the crowd last night and that was for an important night B1G east game.

Yeah, I know they compact down a lot, that is part of the problem with how it looks vs how it actually is. Always made me wonder about our Capacity number, because on capacity days like the Iowa game the upper areas are still packed. So are we actually selling more or what is making it fill up more

I’m just saying Michigan’s student section wasn’t completely full for a top 25 match up Saturday.

Sounds like student tix could be had for $5-$10 - if anyone wanted one they would have bought them at that price.

Non issue and not worth the hassle of overselling. Basketball is different because there are so many games.

Especially student tickets, I think that should be a given.

Edit: I think it should and could be just that easy for student to transfer and trade tickets back and forth. I will admit, I dont know if it is that easy or not these days. This would help greatly in making sure students that want to go can go.

They don't sell out games after September anyways so why bother? Supply already exceeds demand.
