Northbound I-35 will remain closed for the time being. The Iowa DOT and Iowa State Patrol are working closely with the Minnesota DOT and Minnesota State Patrol to coordinate the opening of the northbound lanes to assure a safe flow of traffic between the two states. We are hopeful the northbound lanes will be reopened later this afternoon.

Basically means they have drifts across the road they need a little more than a plow truck to conquer. I'm guessing there are fairly limited options in what they can use. I can tell you in our case unless it's someone calling saying there's an ambulance or fire truck in the ditch I'm not pulling a loader off one of our sites to handle the problem. I know MnDOT is trying to get road graders out but they aren't exactly the fastest moving equipment there is.

35 between Ames and Clear Lake is virtually impossible to keep open in a blizzard. There's nothing to act as a wind break.

I wonder how close was the Army National Guard being activated to help out to clear the highways with their big vehicles?

Should build a wall. Make Minnesota pay for it.

I have a co-worker and close friend my my wife who went up to MSP to visit her husbands family this weekend. My wife apparently warned them that they wouldn't be able to get back on Sunday but they went anyway. They are now stuck there and she keep sending emails that she is hoping to get back today. Ya girl that aint happening and I could have told you that two days ago.

There would be a clear advantage to opening up sections. Not everyone is going all the way to Canada. So clearly let people know what section is open and let some of the traffic start going. Now, would everyone still rush and think they will be first in line at the next gate, possibly.
I bet the drivers that were exiting before the Minnesota border have already taken alternate routes.

Also the longer they keep it closed the better job they can do at getting it cleared and better for drivers. Having to plow around stranded cars and dealing with bad drivers does nothing but make the clearing process take longer.

I’d think most of our north Iowa fans that can’t make it will try to unload their tickets. The DSM contingent should be good; I think attendance will be solid

If you are stranded and cannot go north it would give you something to do.

so it sounds like a lot of places still closed off. I sure hope no one is out there ready to have a baby! Would need a snowmobile!

There was a women in labor in Fairbank that was rescued after her ambulance got stuck. Another woman in dysart was rescued.
