Goals for next year?

Goals are undefeated, Big 12 title, and CFP appearance. Expectations are similar to this year with a small step back assuming Butler and Montgomery are gone.

I would like to see the team play football on all cylinders.
no special teams mistakes though bowl game I didnt see any except minor nitpick missed field goal, ball were 2 inches left it would have been good.

no stupid penalties. how many false starts did we have cause WS shifted omg.
no turnovers on offense
defense force turnovers which they did okay this year.

Brock Purdy mature as QB and get rid of the ball rather than take the sack but not have him do it to a fault ie no intentional grounding penalty which he hasnt but then again he has taken sacks.

This team shores it up who knows how many losses we will have I dont think many could stop ISU if they play football on all cylinders

It would be great to see Purdy develop in the off season. We have not seen a lot of QB development in this program in recent years.

With our QB history I’d just settle for him not being overtaken by someone else next year.

Some people seem to be ok with achieving a low bar.

People are mixing goals with expectations of what they might achieve. I am sure Campbell and the teams goal is to win the Big 12, period. Nobody on the staff is shooting for 2nd or 3rd place.

It's one of the things that bugs me about our otherwise very successful WBB program. Don't think winning the Big 12 is a goal, just making the NCAA is good enough.

Big XII Championship game. Period.

Only 2 teams in the way of that, OU and Texas.

At least 3 new coaches in the league, (let's see what Mr Professional does).

Lots of talent back, with or without Butler and Montgomery and we know Def will be solid.

Time is now to lay claim to being a conference contender.

The goal is a championship. My expectations are 3/4 place. I expect no David or Hakeem with that.

Expectations should be 8-4 or better. I think our talent is getting to the point where we can win even if the injury bug hits. But the reality is our talent level isn't dominant so a handful of games each season will be determined by a few key plays. Matt Campbell was right on when he said success is about attention to detail.

I think we can battle for the Big 12 title if the following happens:

Offense
  1. Our o-line needs to become dominant against average opponents. With all 5 starters returning maybe that can happen, but I think we need some strong competition.
  2. Purdy gets better. An off-season in ISU's conditioning program is big. Purdy being a step quicker and stronger will make our RPO better.
  3. I think our skill positions next year will be by committee. I would be surprised if someone steps up to be close to the next Montgomery or Butler. I think one key will finally be the TE position- maybe 60 catches among Kolar & Allen.
Defense
  1. Our DL could be elite. Lima and Bailey have been our 2 studs and Eyi gives ISU 3 really strong guys. One guy who seems to be getting better big time is Jamahl Johnson, he was all over the field against WSU. Add guys like Leo and McDonald the DL might be our deepest position next year. Would our staff consider shifting our defense to a 4-2-5 next year?
  2. LB should be solid with Rose and Spears. Hummel was solid. It will be interesting to see if Vance stays at LB or could he grow into a DE?
  3. Cornerback is a question based on prior playing time, but if our DL is strong as I expect opposing QB's won't be comfortable in the pocket.
Special Teams could be very good. Dunn got better as the season progressed. Assailey showed a lot of growth. He has a strong leg and hits the ball consistently.

1. Sell more season tickets. I'm buying two more in my row, how about you?
2. Convert more people into ISU fans. There's never been a better time.
3. Beat the Team out East. No-brainer there.
4. Get to ten regular season wins. It's doable.
5. Beat the Hoks.
6. Beat Texas and Pee Wee Herman.
7. Enjoy the North End Zone progress.
8. Drink more beer.
9. Did I mention beating the Hoks?

My goal would be for us to maintain or improve. I just don't wan to take step backward.

We need to get off the schnied with TOE. To me that's an expectation. Campbell should have beaten them by now and it's in Ames so it needs to happen.

Totally agree. While the idea of maintaining may not sound like a big goal, for ISU football manning our current level of play has never been done in the history of the program. Another year or two at our current level would go a long way to prove to outsiders that we are building something sustainable and not just some flash in the pan.
