Offensive line coach and

Are they very young?

They’re simply limited physically and not particularly sound fundamentally. I don’t think that changes too much with another year given four of them will be rs seniors. Bad OLs are hard to hide, but we don’t even try to sometimes.

I'd consider them young:
Newell - RsFr
Olson - Rs Jr - 1st year with significant playing time
Knippel - Jr
Meeker - RsJr
Good-Jones - RsJr - first year at tackle

Before the season did I think we would be one win from the champ game and sugar bowl? Was optimistic but didn’t really think so. So would have to say the team has exceeded my expectations in 2018.

Do I think a OC, better OL, and better special teams staff would have had us in Dallas today and win or lose heading to a sugar bowl? Maybe hard to say. We were close and those areas seem to be what held us back (and maybe not having Montgomery first half of TX game).

What I do know is the last time we were this close to a champ game and cotton bowl appearance was probably 2005. The next year we fired our coach. So we need to be sure we keep positive support behind this team and staff so we keep improving and don’t don’t digress. If we can replace peavy next year (and anyone that leaves for nfl) we should be in a position to keep increasing our expectations but need to do it in a constructive supported fashion. Not a 2006 fashion.

This is good except 2005 was an epic fail at the end, was all too familiar to 2004 and the program was headed nowhere.

The program is still ascending under CMC, however fans are entitled to wonder about some of the schematic decisions.

You can add special teams coordinator to this list as well
Definitely getting that feel from Campbell in games that we should win. Conservative play calls, limit mistakes, rely on better players to win the games. It doesn’t win many style points, but it does win games (but sometimes feels like we’re a play away from losing).

Does this remind you of anybody? A certain coach we like to make fun of on here perhaps?

Yes we went 8-4 this year, however there are definite areas that need improvement. For one, I don't feel like we've played a "good" game since WVU. That's a problem. Just because we had a good record doesn't mean we can't point out things that need to be addressed. This season was not perfect.

Here's the reality - and perhaps the mark of a program striving for greatness. The sum of the parts is less than the whole. Despite all the flaws WWWEEELLLLLLLL documented - some even backed up by logic - we've done things this program has NEVER done and we've started doing it consistently DESPITE all the flaws and warts and such...

My wife got a boob job.
Then she got a nose job.

But dammit, her elbows are still too pointy. Does she even care?!?

My wife is a crappy cook. She never irons my clothes. She has no concept of long-term planning or financial endeavors. I hate her Mom. I couldn't love anyone any more than I do her and her flaws are part of her beauty because she rewards me with unending love.

Pretty confident CMC is not satisfied and understands where improvement is needed to take this program to the next level.

Yeah, if you're not improving you're getting worse.

8-4 is great, but every offseason is a chance for evaluation of what is working and what isn't, to give us the best chance of being 8-4 or better next year too.

8 wins, 6 conference wins, won 7 of the last 8, we're ranked and were legit contenders to appear in the championship game. I'll do Drake - you do mine.
Did you watch the conference championship games today?

Can you imagine ANY of those teams being taken to the wire by DRAKE?

Under ANY circumstances?

DRAKE?

Then it will be some other stud that will step up. That is how a program works. CMC has said it over and over that it is always about the players. Plays and formations are secondary. Butler, Rose, Eisworth, and Purdy are prime examples of players stepping up this season. There are many others too. No doubt we will be even better next year
I think this post is more profound than it's getting credit for. Damn good reminder. And maybe, just maybe, this underlying philosophy of Campbell's is dead on.

And they'll tighten up those secondary factors, no doubt.
