Not exactly sure.
That's in Thompson isn't it? Heard of it but never been there. Supposed to be good though.

Yep, Thompson. Best steaks in north Iowa. If you avoid Friday and Saturday you can get in fairly quickly. Been there when buses from Wisconsin and Minnesota have showed up and it was a 2 hour wait to get a table.

Unkie's in Thor is the best kept secret around here. If you don't get there before 5:30, you'll have a wait - but they also have a separate little place with a bar so it's not all bad. Great food, if you go away hungry it's your own fault.

That's my parents favorite hole-in-the-wall spot. It's been probably 15 years since I've been there but I think the prime rib was really good at a decent price.

One warning on Unkie's. They don't take credit cards! Not a place to just stop in if going by. Definitely have to plan everything.

I remember the Branding Iron from when we lived in Forest City, but don't remember it being that packed.

I also remember this place from when we lived in Humboldt. Don't think we ever ate there though.

Overrated IMO. Very expensive as well. When the first thing out of everyones mouth is they have a good salad bar (which they do), is it really a great steak place?

My local one is "Miller Marine! Miller Marine! Where boats something something sell something something for less at Miller Marine". Play the radio for a few hours doing yard chores and you hear that commercial jngo about a dozen times. Still cannot decipher the "something something" part. Assume it's boat and motors or something

The prices have risen over the last 2-3 years. Up til that time, no steak was ever over 25 bucks, even the 14 oz ribeye. The salad bar is so/so in my mind. I have never been impressed by it. Then again, we used to go to The Barn a lot when I was young and that place had two sections of salad bar compared to the BIs one. After Glenn stopped running the barn it hasn't been the same. Then again i would usually have him make me a drink and then a second to go golfing and by the third hole I had to quit because I wasn't sure which of the three balls I should be hitting. Had to eat to sober up.

EDIT: What I order most time at the branding iron is the sirloin. Says 10 oz but probably closer to 12 oz. This jumped in the last year, it was 15 bucks when we stopped after a wrestling tourney a year ago, was 18 the other night.

Definition of a "bad" steak place - when they offer you A-1 or some other steak "sauce" when they bring your meal. ;)

I always think of you when especially my in-laws coat everything they eat in salt or a heavily salt based "seasoning" and sauce. I may use some sauce but use it as more of a flavor enhancer type of thing. All meat has a natural flavor that if it is a good cut/quality needs to be enjoyed.
