New Commitment - Jade Thurmon

Don't know anything about quality of play in Texas junior colleges other than Lauren Mansfield came from Midland JC and she was a serviceable PG for us for two years. WBB JC isn't what MBB JC is though. Just not much that is discussed or covered at all.

Need our Texas connection regarding Texas JC. Calling @geewago :D

Going to have more then are regular roster numbers next season (assuming no one leaves other then Emily and Claire). Think this is 14 on scholarship next season? Need mReds spreadsheet.

Jade could not have much on Nia even with a 20 PPG average in JC.

Just watched Purdue and their freshman point guard, Karissa McLaughlin, upset #13 Michigan in OT in Ann Arbor. There are PG's in each class, apparently. Only 5'-7" but she was not playing like a fresh.

Earlier saw some WBB talking heads going over the WBB top 4 seeds. They have Michigan as #4. They have Baylor as a 3 Seed which is stupid. Baylor looks to be twice the team that this Wolverine "4 Seed" is.

Thurmon's stats --

The good:
20.8 ppg
7.3 rpg (at 5'8")
4.5 apg
2.8 spg
1.3 fouls per game
6.9 FTA/game

The bad:
38.8 FG%, despite nearly 80% of her FG attempts being of the 2pt variety
4.6 turnovers/game
23 FGA per 40 minutes (Carleton has only 18.5 FGA/40 min)

Those last two stats could have something to do with her teammates or the style of play of her team. A lot of two point attempts (but not a great percentage), a lot of FT attempts, and a lot of turnovers leads me to believe she's probably generating a lot of her team's offense on her own by driving to the basket and drawing fouls.

We were a finalist for her when she verballed Florida. She decommitted when Florida fired their coach, eventually landing on Purdue. We weren't a finalist the second time around.

Thanks, the name rang a bell as i watched tonight, likely referencing that recruiting.

You have almost caught me off guard here. We are talking about guards here right? I used to watch JC ball here in Texas religiously. I have watched less this year than ever before. Kilgore is over in Division 14 in east TX. I live in Division 5 here in Central TX. I know one thing, 9 years out of 10 Trinity Valley sends 2 to 3 players up who always do fairly well. I don't know how they get so many good players but I think it has a lot to do with grade problems. But I suspect they could beat Texas Tech the last few years.

I've seen this girl play once in a HS tournament. I think she scored over 30 points. The one JC game I saw, they lost but she she scored in the mid 20's. She is a high volume shooter, but that is out of necessity primarily. I think she is good enough to move up and play for some one. I just don't know if I'd rank her as big 12 caliber or not. I guess that remains to be seen. So I plead the 5th.

Do we have any new help coming in next year at the post position?

Maybe? We do have a post/forward in the class, Morgan Kane from Utah. the @geewago guys at Prospects Nations have her as a #136 in the class and #25 post. But who knows, they ranked Scott higher than that (#96 and #17) so not expecting anyone that's coming in to seize the post job.

I have never seen Jade play and she does score a lot of points. As Texas and Baylor recruit 6-0 and 6-1 guards we stay with the 5-8? or 5-7? guards. I hope that Jade works out. It will be nice to have more bodies next season so we aren't down to below 10 players when injuries happen. It would be good to get a road win at the Cats.

The top level teams grab up the long guards. That's why we lost Taylor Grennfield from Huxley to Stanford, even though she basically grew up ISU. Yeah, they have great academics, but if that's what she wanted there are a lot of great academic schools that aren`t top ten in basketball.

Hopefully we're after some posts in the 6-4 to 6-6 elevation for the 2019 class remaining schollies. If not we need one with Poppen's motor.

I would like to see our staff take some risks with a post player. Look at Kaylee Jensen at OSU - she is a beast. I know she can't run the floor, but a big post like that would do a lot for our offense and defense. We seem to be conservative when it comes to offering post players, although Bride may be the exception.
