I played trumpet for and my wife played flute. I like asking her why she'd choose to play an instrument nobody can hear.

My wife played clarinet. Other than making woody jokes and some good jazz/blues stuff it's not that useful. #LowBrass4Life

Here’s a question for the ladies here, my wife and daughter both do this but the three males don’t and it drives me batty. The wife got an Alexa and she will play that with the tv going and then walk over and start playing stuff on the computer so there is cluttered noise coming from everywhere. Daughter does this too, not sure how they listen to it all

I can only have one (or none) source of auditory input going at once. If I have Alexa playing, I will mute the TV. In school I could never study with music going, had to be quiet. At Christmas my hubby would put on streaming Christmas music which was on almost all day. A bit much when the TV was on or lots of other noise. So not a female thing, must be genetic to your wife.

Since Justin Timberlake was brought up last night, I'll cash in my man card a bit and admit that I don't mind a few of his songs that my daughter has played. I've also liked him in a few different movies and on talk show interviews.

Plus he gave the world

Band concert was a success. Daughter and her friend did a duet which was short but very clean sounding. Her friend started it out by playing the Star Spangled Banner as a sax solo. Not perfect, but pretty darn good and really ambitious.

Their band instructor encourages them to try things outside of their comfort zone, which I love.

My daughter plays clarinet, but really wants to play violin. Unfortunately, our school district doesn't have orchestra, so we'd have to enroll her elsewhere or do private lessons to accomplish that.

Her cousin plays violin and is pretty good. My daughter has the right mindset to succeed with a difficult instrument, so I'm torn with how to proceed. I'm a sucker for Vivaldi and would love to see her pursue a string instrument. Really wish we had the option at her middle school next year.

If you have the means, I would definitely pursue it for her. I know our schools do not offer orchestra either but the 6th grader has a friend who does cello.

When our oldest was in about 4th grade, she thought she wanted to learn how to play drums. We bought her drumsticks, kinda asked around for lessons. When it came time to try out instruments in 5th, she found she was not good at percussion (had never taken piano so did not know how to read music/rhythms). She picked alto sax instead. She has also taught herself how to play guitar and ukulele. Now in HS the band director gives them an opportunity to learn a second instrument if they want, but not sure if she will do that or not.

My daughter was complaining about the trumpets being so loud the other day. If there's one constant in every band it's the contempt that woodwinds hold for the brass section.

So far in 5th and 6th grade band for the 12yr old there is a very large disproportionate number of trumpets to the rest of the band. #trumpetsstink

My old team had nicknames for everyone. When I came on board there was a Bieber so they gave me Timberlake. I was proudly bringing sexy back.

And vice versa....as an ex-trumpet player myself, it was always comforting to know that we could make more noise than any other instrument in the band. Woodwinds? Pfftttt......they got nothing.

WTF is going on in here? Why do I keep getting interrupted while I'm typing posts? Sometimes the cursor just disappears, and then I have to click the mouse again to get it back. I've had to do it four times while typing this post alone. Also, the cursor keeps flickering like a short-circuiting robot or something.

Hey now, easy on the trumpets stink stuff! lol

Unfortunately, it definitely takes time to learn how to play a trumpet with any finesse. When learning to play, it's far easier to hit higher notes by playing louder.

We have a pretty modest number of trumpets, but a surprisingly large number of trombones, half of which are girls. I was cracking up watching these petite little girls working the slides with their cheeks all puffed out.

My mobile was doing that last night. It would freeze my keyboard and then release it with a fury of previously typed letters.

This morning they think I have something for arab women. Still liking those hungarians, although the czechs are nice but living around enough, no thanks.

Russian hack.

There are some serious paranoid people in car threads. I've found those that are thinking they are getting screwed, are usually those that are trying to hose people over themselves. When my vehicles have issues that I know of, I will point them out. I don't like having issues come back on me.

If I have learned anything on CF it is that there are a few guys on here that waste no chance to puff out their chest and claim that they negotiate hard on everything and it ALWAYS works.

Happily all of my kids ended football at 8th grade. In a small school, when you lose the football players for marching band, it’s a struggle. Several people told me our marching band would not be audible without my son and his trumpet.

Not sure what the Legion will do for Taps when my youngest goes to college.

Nah. We like our neighbors. ;)

Under this topic, I was living in town and had a apartment in a residential area, working night shift, early summer when it's still nice out sleeping with the windows open. The neighbor girl started like 4th grade summer band lessons I was awaken to Mary had a little lamb trumpet version her mom sent her outside to practiceo_O. A pair of earplugs later all was fine luckily it only lasted a couple of weeks. Dang it was a heck of a way to get woke up though.

I only enter those threads to spread and preach Boxster's gospel of car colors.
