Coaching Carousel

If Schiano seriously didn't have any idea or reason to suspect Sandusky was butt ******* boys then.....career is over for no good reason.

If he did know then he can burn in hell next to JoPa.

But what is the real truth?

The real truth is that any AD worth a **** would know to not come within a mile of any coach with any possible connection to Sandusky.

Did he know? Obviously none of us can say for certain, but it was testified in court that he did and knowingly turned the other cheek.

Ultimately, why take the risk? Its not like he's not known as generally a pretty awful person anyway. Former players generally don't speak highly of him. And his 'success' was having some above average years at Rutgers, which wasn't exactly a big deal given how bad the big east was during that period.

There's enough other options that would be as good as 'mediocre big east coach' that you add his potential character issues on top of that and go 'yeah, we'll take a pass'

Watching the dumpster fire at Tennessee really makes you appreciate having Pollard as our athletic director.
Wonder what is going to happen. Seen on a couple Tennessee Vols forums that Greg may back out because of the backlash of his possible hiring.

Schiano isn't a good enough college coach to hire against the wishes of your fanbase. A couple good seasons with Ray Rice but other than that, pretty meh results in a bad conference.

I can think of at least 10 better coaches I'd rather go after.

I tend to give him a little more credit for having any success at all coaching that dumpster fire called Rutgers Football

I agree there is risk. No doubt. But if he had no idea there was child abuse going on his career is forever tarnished for something he didn't do and didn't know about.

I’d rather have FSU job than A&M.
Lane Kiffin has to be ready to bounce to somewhere doesn’t he?
If I’m Tennessee, David Cutcliffe would have been a slam dunk hire.
Good thing David Shaw is a Stanford alum for them. He looks like a soon to be NFL coach to me.
Wonder if Chizik is looking at any openings. I don’t believe that family time bs that he’s spewing.

Cutcliffe is 63. I would have agreed with you save that problem right there.

Lots of SEC teams just have to hunker down until Saban leaves.

Then again, AU and UGA are going to give them ideas that Big Al is mortal now.

Tennessee: Sources tell FootballScoop, Tennessee and Greg Schiano had an understanding of terms earlier in the day; but UT is now backing out of the agreement. Greg Schiano’s side, we’re told, is seeking compensation in connection with breaking the agreement. This is…not normal. Update>ESPN and Yahoo are both now reporting UT has backed out of the agreement as well.

===

Amazing how quickly the fanbase was able to torpedo the hire.

Could we do something similar to Bowlsby?

Unbelievable that the Tennessee AD and all of the folks they have working on this either didn't know about Schiano's connection to the Penn State/Sandusky issue or they didn't think it was a potential problem. That right there, along with the fact that Schiano will probably be owed some kind of compensation for this fiasco, should cause some heads to roll in that athletic department.

If I'm Tennessee I'd go to Peyton Manning and David Cutcliffe and see if I could work out an arrangement. That's assuming Manning has any interest in coaching.

Either that or offer Gruden 10 million a year.

Well this guy thinks the Sandusky link is garbage.

–McQueary never even claimed to have spoken to Schiano about him supposedly having knowledge of Sandusky’s abuse. They didn’t even coach together during remotely the same time period.

–Schiano stopped coaching at Penn State in 1995. The first documented episode where anyone at all was ever notified of any allegation against Sandusky was in 1998 and that was fully investigated by the district attorney and, quite correctly, was dismissed without any charges.
