The fat lady isn't singing yet...

K State will play you like UT did.
K State will make Park look horrible and control the ball. Their offense is a more efficient than UT's at this point even if they lack the talent.
I may be wrong and ISU will be able to put up points against K State very much like they did Iowa.
If you think that Iowa St is in a position to play with K State right now and has a chance greater than 20% to win that game you might be looking through Cyclone glasses

The way our d-line is playing against the run I would actually really like our chances against K-State right now. You can't even compare the defensive talent between K-State and UT so to say that K-State would defend us the same way UT did doesn't exactly worry me. Other than ******* the game away annually I really don't find K-State a scary team.

If you look at all these computer sites they have UT ranked much higher than Maryland.
According to a lot of these computers UT is on the verge of being a Top 25 team.
A win over Kansas St will give UT votes but I do not think UT will a top 25 team until they beat OU. Once this happens I think UT will be Top 20 maybe 15.
I said after the SC game that UT has a chance to run the table in the BIG XII with UT's toughest matchup being TCU not OU.

By the third quarter the Beat OU chants will start in Austin on Saturday.
There is a chance in three weeks ISU will look back on the UT game differently.

UT win over K-State is settled by the third quarter, yeah right, Longhorn dude.

As for ISU, I said last week that the UT game was State's tipping point. The loss was bad in and of itself at home. But it also makes the rest of the season much more difficult from a mental frame of thought.

The 2 punts you mention are what is still sticking with me as much as anything. How many times have we heard this coaching staff talk about all the play makers we have on offense, and yet that's the message you send to your players and fan base when the lights are on? If you're serious about changing the culture, you can't play scared. That, and Montgomery getting 10 touches or whatever the hell it was are inexcusable.
Another aspect of that I didn't really think about. The defense was playing well. Another reason to go for it.

You must not have been an Iowa State fan for very long.
Let's just say the last two games previous to this year between UT and ISU in Ames are anomalies.
For ISU to expect to beat UT at home every year will take two things: An increase in talent or for ISU to slowly build a program very much like what Bill Synder did at K State or Frank Beamer did at Va Tech.
Problem is because of things like this message board and people interacting with each other creating a school's own narrative of expectations coaches are fired way too quick for a Bill Synder or Frank Beamer like coach to be able to build a program at a P5 university.
So you are left with ISU needing to increase their level of talent. Without ISU acting like Ole Miss this will be difficult unless ISU can brand themselves like an Oregon.

ISU has been patient to a fault with some of its coaching staffs (see Paul Rhoads for a recent example). I don't disagree with your assertion that a Beamer or a Snyder would be nice, but those guys don't grow on trees. I'm fine with hiring good coaches who can attract good people (assistants and recruits). If they succeed and move on, good for them and good for us.

The biggest problem with Cyclone football right now, and it really showed Thursday night, is the utter lack of a talent and development pipeline for the O line. Not being able to run the ball is fatal. Thankfully we did a damn nice job stopping the run Thursday night, so there's that. Looks like we are on our way to building a respectable defensive line. Much work to do on the other side of the ball and I think this staff (or any competent staff for that matter) is up to the task. Reason? There's a lot of big bulky guys roaming around the upper Midwest. It's high time we started getting some of them into Ames. We don't have to brand ourselves like Oregon to succeed. We have a team to the east of us that has about 20 linemen (offensive and defensive) in the NFL right now. I know it might be heresy to say around here, but they have an extremely successful program and they are anything but flashy.

It's absolutely reasonable for ISU to beat Texas in Ames when their program is in the shape it is in now and has been since about 2010. Snyder has an all time winning record against the Horns. Maybe ISU can't match that, but its not unreasonable to expect to compete and win maybe 1 out of three times we play.

The more I think about it the more irked I am at where this team is this season. This program has had maybe 10 of these turning point games the last 25 years and lost every one except one and well that win was pissed away the next week. This program hasn't been to a bowl game in 5 seasons, hasn't won more than 6 in 8, and hasn't had more than 6 regular season wins in 12 years. The 9 win high mark is 17 years old.

They had a good chance at being 4-0 right now. Instead they are 2-2 soon to be 2-3. This staff has allowed bad Iowa offenses to look like one of the top offenses in the country 2 years in a row. They have not been able to beat bad Texas teams, CRP beat a lot better Texas teams than this, more than once. The Texas game it looked like Danny Mac was the coach and Coach Fine was calling plays. The sad thing is the staff has sounded like Danny Mac after the loss. You know well we did play well and Texas is just a good team, all that was missing was the we won the 2nd half line.

I like this staff, but then again I liked the staff that was here before also, and the Danny Mac staff before that. Just go out and find a ******* way to win games. Stop with the old lines, the old plays, lets win now. Winning 6 games shouldn't be this hard. Waiting for next year is getting old when that getting better promise never comes.

Here's an idea...how about the texas and Kansas State fans go to one of their boards to argue about the texas vs Kansas State game...just a thought

Whoa - so K-State should have been more "patient" with Stan Parrish, and not have fired him after just three seasons...to hire Bill Snyder?

I guess what is not being realized by ISU fans is this UT team is getting better every week.
The previous game UT took a SC team that was on a 11 game win streak, I believe, to OT. If a few calls went UT's ways the Longhorns would have beaten the Trojans.
If they had a bye week that means they actually had almost two weeks to improve from their last game. I have seen evidence on the field that this UT team is getting better and come January may end up BIG XII Champions, Top 5 and a Group of 6 Bowl winner.

Just because Texas beat us doesn't mean they are the greatest team in the world. Our incompetent offense made their defense look great. Our defense looked good because their offense sucks. Texas is a middle of the pack B12 team.

So Iowa's defense sucks as well
Before the game ISU was talking about how great Iowa's defense was and how they put up 40 against a team who shut down Penn State.

UT's offense does need work but I would much rather have a great defense with a below average than the other way because then one turnover or one big special teams play changes the game around. The explosiveness of UT return team and defense players gives me hope

Wait are you arguing that UT is a top flight B12 team? You do realize you only beat ISU by 10 points and lost to Maryland right? An ISU team that will win only 4 games this year. Any competent B12 team should have beaten ISU by 30 pts last Thursday given the number of opportunities they had. The only people talking about how great Iowa's defense was are the same people talking up ISU's offense.

I wasn't really following college football at that time as I was too young.
My point is a coach used to get 4 to 5 years unless he was so horrible that a school had no choice now it has become 2 to 3. Some places like Louisiana 1/4 of a season.

Bill Synder or Frank Beamer sucked for their first four years but both were given an extra year at a school that really did not have football history. Both K State and Va Tech were horrible before both coaches arrived.
I have a feeling that both would have been fired if they coached like they did in the early 90's in 2017.

The same narrative always exist on every college football board
1. Hope in someone new
2. Fire the OC or DC over one loss
3. Once they get a coordinator fired then it is the head coach
4. Some places like LSU and Nebraska it becomes fire the AD.

We will have to see how good UT is.
The score may have been only 10 points but UT pretty much dominated that game except for self inflicted issues on offense.
Sometimes you beat a team by 24 but you dominate much less in that game then another were you beat a team by one touchdown.

UT had the ball for over 40 minutes in that game and except for one drive for ISU their offense could not amount anykind of attack.

Given the statistic advantage you still only beat ISU by 10. Do you think 17 points will beat OU? Or maybe OSU? How about TCU?
