Wherever I go, there I am.
Yeah that's a pretty universal thing. Never heard of anyone letting the old guys take one in the foot though, ha. I've been told multiple times that they would rather go through the tazer certification 5 times over before ever having to get pepper sprayed again.

I would agree with that, even though I've never been tazed. In the Young CloneLawman years (kind of like the young Indiana Jones years, but without visits to Central America and Europe), I was a prosecutor and worked really closely with the police forces within my jurisdiction. I thought it would be a useful experience to undergo the pepper spray training (to know what it was like if it came up in a case). Plus I was a bit too full of bravado and was friends with the Captain who was giving the training. During the talk beforehand he flipped his pepper spray back to me and I shot some on my tongue "Not bad..just like hot sauce!".

But then taking it in the eyes was a different story. They let me remove contacts beforehand, but it still was excruciating. I am a pepper spray wimp and would make a horrible criminal. If the cops sprayed OC in my eyes I would be in no position to be combative.

And I got the simplified version. I just stood there with eyes open and let them spray it right in my eyes (the Cap enjoyed that) . Then after a minute they handed you a hose to rinse your eyes out. One good thing about it is it really clears out the sinuses. I had a string of snot pumping out my nose a couple feet long. The worst part was that when I showered the next morning there was some reactivation of the stuff.

It also made me think of a police report I had recently read where some Deputies had pepper-sprayed a guy a couple of times and he just stood there screaming "Give me more!".

I'll have to dig around. I think I still have some photos of getting pepper-sprayed and the aftermath.

After about a month and a half off, I'm back to coaching. 6th grade volleyball started last night. It's safe to say the girls will have a good time and talk a lot.

I demonstrated a serve and hit one girl in the head. Later, my daughter hit a bump sideways that hit the same girl in the head. Tough girl. She was unfazed both times except for laughing.

If you remember, it was a year ago during RVTV before the big Iowa/Iowa State game that CFraised money for CW's neighbor, Ava. Sadly, Ava passed away yesterday. They knew there was nothing more they could do medically to stop her cancer, so she spent her time at home with her family. This Wednesday the 13th would have been her 12th birthday.

My daughter managed to score a basket while serving in her last game. She underhand serves and the baskets were half up/half down on the right side of their court. She got big cheers, but unfortunately it didn't count for 3pts.

I lost a tooth that way in high school PE. I was front row corner, watching my teammate serve (overhand). Line drive straight to my right cheekbone. A few months later the second tooth from the front was noticeably darker and I started getting this intense pain next to my right nostril, and a lump started forming. Found out I had an abscess on the root of the tooth. Root canal & crown at the ripe old age of 18. If you have never had a novocaine shot in your hard palate...lemme tell ya, it is intense. They figure it started with the full-face hit injuring the root, although at the time I just had a shiner and a sore nose.

When I was going through basic training, I had to be exposed to tear gas as part of my chemical warfare training. I guess it was supposed to act as incentive to get my gas mask on as fast as possible if the real thing ever happened.

It sucked balls.

I believe it!! I never took any tear gas, thank God. There was a "pepper spray fogger" they got out to demonstrate too and I breathed in a bit of that and it was 'turrible.

I know the wave of tear gas I got wasn't pleasant, but can't confirm it as sucking balls. No experience there.

Waiting for an oil change at the Toyota dealership. I think I bring the average age in the waiting area down by about 15-20 years. I am just thankful I can get here without any kids in tow now. Usually I have to wait in the kids' area.

Our company matriarch (the original owner's wife) turns 95 today. She still comes to work every day, goes through the daily invoices (and finds all the mistakes), calls on past-due accounts, and makes the bank deposits. Plus she can eat steak and bratwurst and chocolate-covered cherries like nobody's business. Not to mention she is one of the sweetest people God ever put on this earth.

I consider myself fortunate to work for a family-oriented company like ours. They treat people well, and reward loyalty in many ways.
