McDermott (turned down) Ohio State

Five years. Five years with a losing record and not even a whiff of the NIT to our name. As a person, I liked McDermott. I never understood why he wasn't able to succeed here.

But if he takes Aaron Craft's alma mater to the NC, I may start kicking kittens.

Hah! I figured that was the worst thing I could say...especially since Milo the dork is currently occupying the desk between me & the keyboard, with his head resting on my arm while I'm trying to type...

He better be prepared for getting some serious **** from fans. They will have him on a very short leash.

He is not leaving Creighton
The point here is that he likely is already in the better basketball conference as Big East > BIG when it comes to hoops. Why leave a job where you have job security, good standing in the community, and a good nucleus of players? The challenge? The money?

Well, I guess Fred did that by going to the Bulls...so it could happen.

That's spin. He was fired.

Maybe you were joking.

Well, it sounds like he wanted to coach one more year, and was forced out early. I don't believe he was "fired" for his win-loss record though. So the point of "They fired the winning-est coach is school history to hire Greg McDermott" is misleading. If he didn't have the health problems, he would still be the coach.

This job might be good for McD. There is more pressure at CU and ISU to perform because of lack of performance in other sports. OSU is competitive in all sports and bball is not the main attraction in town, not even close. Plus, other sports from Cleveland and Cincy fall in to the C-bus area. Ohio is a big state that has a lot of D-1 athletes, so recruiting shouldn't be as difficult as Omaha or Ames. Plus, OSU has Texas size money and facilities are unbelievable. Lastly, I know McD. is a bigger golfer and Columbus is the golf course capital of the US.

On the flip side, I'm baffled that this is who OSU is going after. OSU was willing to pay $4mm+ for a coach.
