I wouldn't. Sit one, play one isn't that appetizing to me for a guy who wasn't all that efficient and and doesn't give you much else. I'd rather have the guy from Princeton at this point. If we were able to get Juiston, that kid, and Edwards, that would be a pretty good haul. I'm sure they'll kick the tires on the NMSU kid but that's going to be a real battle.
It's appealing now that we have 4 to give imo (certainly more than Kasongo was, but that's spilled milk) I'd like to have one open, but it's unlikely you'll get one better then

Way up there
Shayok is a defender and really effective in the mid range offensively. He was the guy that curled every cut in their offense instead of cutting to the three point line. Wouldn't be a great fit with our offense.

Is it possible he wasn't a great fit for UVA's offense? I mean look at what a change of scheme did for a guy like Diante Garrett...he went from a borderline p5 player to our leading scorer and a guy who got a stint in the league after Fred let him loose. A year off and an offensive minded coach would do wonders for this kid.

DG was never borderline. He would have had a ton of top P5 interest had he magically been a grad transfer. He also likely would have made a sizable jump under McD his senior year, although not as much. With no Brackins, Gilstrap, or Hamilton, his volume was increasing regardless. Damn, how did McD lose so much with those four plus Scotty?

But back on topic, Shayok would be an absolute gem of a get.

If he's that fourth one and you say, "Hey, we likely aren't going to do better in the mid year" I guess I'm fine. We also don't have scholarships for 18 to just be handing out so sitting on it may not be all bad. I just would much rather have a combination of Juiston, Yetna, Edwards, Princeton kid, NMSU kid, or even the Marquette kid.

Any 4-man combination of those guys and Shayok & Thorpe would sure be winning this signing period!

It all starts with Juiston though imo. I watched his game today. Sans a 3P shot he has it all. I wasn't too high on Caruso (Princeton) initially, but if we land a forward like Juiston, filling out the frontcourt with a 6'9" 240lb 3P shooter really would give us a great complementary group. He played well against the better teams on their schedule.

Add an experienced ball handler that can score and next year's roster would be the most complete one we've had in years.

Brown is the best of the guards but he seems like a chucker and I wonder if he is a great team player

The issue with Brown is he will probably be one of the most sought after grad transfer this summer. I think ISU could offer him good playing time and he could get buckets, but he may want to go to a program that has a higher chance of going deep in the tourney. This isn't a big slight to ISU but depending on how things turn out we may be 6-10 seed in the dance next year so I could see him trying to go after bigger fish.

I don't know what he holds as his top priorities. The dance might not matter that much to him and he just wants PT. This isn't 5 years ago when ISU was the top dog on the transfer market. Everyone else jumped on board once they saw Fred turn around ISU using it. Sadly the blue bloods and top national basketball programs now use it so it can be hard to battle out for the top transfers.

I believe that Princeton's Caruso is planning on Santa Clara. As a 6'4" forward, I wondered how his game would translate to a power conference. There aren't rim protectors in the Ivy League.
