Random Thoughts IX (The first 8 were probably better)

Overall, though -
I think the mods do an excellent job. The conversations can get intense, and we have our fair share of wingnuts in the cave and rabid fans in the sports threads, but there is really a lot of freedom for speaking your mind, without the really brutal stuff that passes for quality posting on some other boards I can think of.

You probably don't know this given September 11 and all, but on that day, my brother saw Air Force One fly over his high school football practice he was coaching. Kind of wondered if there would be other planes with that, Guessing there would be no advance team that day, but assumed there would be some military planes at least in the vicinity.

It was escorted by fighters but you would be correct after they left Florida all plans went out the window. I am guessing he was in southern Omaha? There are some good videos on YouTube about Air Force One and a few include interviews with Bush's pilot and he discusses that day.
It makes sense as on 9/11 President Bush was flown into Offutt AFB for a short while. That's just south of Omaha in Bellevue.

The President's fleet of helicopters were (maybe still are) Sikorsky helicopters. They were flown regularly back to Sikorsky's Bridgeport facility for routine maintenance. My dad was able to get me into the hanger with the helicopters but I wasn't allowed past the fences and armed guards.

I don't Ike socks that cover any part of the calf. One of my calves is much larger than the other so I can't get socks to fit right.

I've had a couple deleted, mostly for skirting around the edges of a topic. IIRC I was told privately to play nicely once, and a couple of mods have publicly yelled at me...for things that were probably fair, but I plead age & obstinancy!
I get kind of crabby when I can't poop, too.

Yep, once you get old you can't really help what you say. It's just science

They still are Sikorsky's. I worked at the DSM airport during the 2012 election and there was at least one occasion that Obama and Biden were coming and going multiple times over the course of several days so instead of flying everything in and out several times they rented one of the big hangars from one of the regional airlines that used it for maintenance and put everything there. Roped it off and had armed guards but the doors were open so you could see in.

I never saw that one. Was it good mindless fun? I liked Olympus Has Fallen for the Die Hard feels. I remember White House Down coming out a few months later and never saw it because it looked like a similar movie with a slightly worse cast.

That's just not realistic and why Olympus Has Fallen is better. Well, that and the little girl with the flag was annoying and it was pretty much badly written political propaganda. Channing Tatum is a handsome man, though.

I'm the contrarian, I preferred White House Down because it didn't take itself too seriously. It is thus always rewatchable on late night TV. The girl is annoying. However, President Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum are a winning combination. Can't help it, love me some Channing Tatum, he is surprisingly funny in both this and the Jump Street movies. It is one of very few movies where I can tolerate Maggie Gyllenhaal's character. Kind of like the actor bad guy who was also in Zero Dark Thirty, Jason Clarke, I think. Good implausible action and fun.

I also liked Olympus Has Fallen but have no interest in seeing it again. Disappointing that President Aaron Eckhart isn't exactly fair to awesome Secret Service guy Gerard Butler. Enjoyed Angela Bassett and Morgan Freeman but as implausible as WHD without the fun.
