Hilton Magic is Alive and Well

balcony student section was barely half full. Time to give the entire balcony to the public if students can't even fill for a top 10 team

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion yet. Uppers were dirt cheap outside Hilton last night, people on here were struggling to get rid of them, and there were a lot of empty seats everywhere else last night too, especially the upper deck.

I moved to this section last night for a little extra room. 215 seems to always have an open block as well.
This is my first year in a while with season tickets and we couldn't get four together so many of those open seats are going to waste. Weather was near perfect for January and I expected a better crowd.

I believe ticket exchange only goes till two hours before the game so if you happen to find out that someone can't go the day of it doesn't give you much selling time. Would be nice if you could dump free tickets on ticket exchange right up till game time.

Hilton Magic is about fans helping stem and prolong the momentum created by the players on the floor. If your head coach is going to call timeouts after made buckets in the middle of the second half he doesn't understand what makes this place special.

I suggest people watch this video. Timeouts don't have to stop the magic. This game proved that.

A lot of the "Magic" was created by the personalities of the players at the time i..e. Niang, Hogue, Monte. Collectively they were infectious

This is a sidebar but that timeout just killed everything last night. Score a bucket to get the lead to 6 and call a time out. Huggy draws up a play during the time out, WVU hits a 3 and the game was essentially over.

I 100% agree with this and the one he took last night? WTF. That was like 5 minutes too late and 5 minutes too early at the same time.

We have a bunch of really good guards. thats about it. Nobody on our roster will probably play NBA. Morris, burton NBADL or Euro. We have no post. No rim protector. Everyone we play has this. We are at best an 10 seed if we pull a bunch of wins out.

Got beat by a Bad SEC team team.
Gave up 2 Quality wins at home. got smoked by WVU. Smoked by Iowa who plays a bunch of 18 year olds.
so....are these games must wins?
@tex
OU
TCU
@TT
OSU

We only have 13 wins. now. After breaking this down I think we are NIT Bound. I really don't see us beating Tex and Tech on the road.

Lose
@KU
@KSU
@WVU

Gonzaga, Cincy, Iowa, @Baylor, @TCU, KU, @ Vandy, WVU got away
Then a few wins where we shouldn't have won but we did.

I really think we are just not that good.
Final win prediction. 16 wins. 4 seed NIT

You can't dump free tickets on the exchange at all, though. There's a minimum that's often ridiculous for the opponent. I've only had luck there with really "big" games that even those who resell are willing to put up more money. Trying here at least lets me feel like I tried to help someone who's for Iowa State.

Not even Hitlon Magic can help us overcome our some of our decisions on the court...

Honestly though, I know everyone is doom and gloom after last night but go back and watch the second half again. We missed a TON of wide open looks that normally go down. WV got hot for a few minutes in the second half and the game got away from us pretty quick but man we had so many shots rattle in and out.

People have been saying this all year. This team misses a lot of wide open looks. It is what it is.

Through this season and the past few seasons when we've had success, we've lost something. We've lost humility and an understanding of what it is to be an ISU fan. When the team plays, I watch, when the team plays well, I cheer. When the team plays poorly, I cheer.
So you start a thread saying "Hilton Magic is alive and well," but then you complain about the fans as if it isn't. Shouldn't your comments be in the thread "Hilton Magic is dead?"

That's another thing that really bothers me. We're not that great, we go out there and scrap every game, playing annoying defense with an really undersized team...it's what everyone has wanted for a few years now. It should be a really easy team to get behind with an underdog, little fast hustle guys vs. the tall and talented dynamic.

But, no one is interested in getting behind them they just want to complain about how not tall we are.

That's your interpretation of my post. And it's the interpretation I would expect from you. Carry on.

You're right, it's not really a thing. It's an idea. A beautiful idea. It's an identity, a meaningful identity. It's a community, something that a school that hasn't had a ton of athletic success to congregate together and feel good. Feel like a part of something that no one else can have.

Through this season and the past few seasons when we've had success, we've lost something. We've lost humility and an understanding of what it is to be an ISU fan. When the team plays, I watch, when the team plays well, I cheer. When the team plays poorly, I cheer. When someone misses a layup I don't question their entire person and their level of effort and caring. When we miss a free throw I don't think about how terrible that player must be to miss a free 15 ft shot with no one guarding them.

Everyone that is a Cyclone for life, especially the alumni and the current students need to get their heads out their azzes, stop doing their best hok fan impersonation, and cut the emo sorry for themselves woe is me BS. I know big Chiefs fans, I know Royals fans, I know pre-Super Bowl wins Broncos fans, I knew Minnesota North Stars fans and I've never, ever seen a transition from proud, self-respecting, defiant fanbase to whiny, cringe-worthy, self loathing fanbase like I've seen with the ISU basketball fanbase since Fred Hoiberg became ISU basketball coach.
If i could 'like' this any harder, I would. This is 110% true.

I always love the obsession CF has with that section. Look at most other arenas, ISU is doing more than fine comparatively, and students should not have areas taken away from them. I doubt there's a huge demand for those seats right now anyway, and the student section will always look worse due to A) the students compressing forward in the section and B) the students having a much smaller ability to re-sell their tickets. Lots of tickets getting resold in the non-student sections right now.

I however would not be opposed to offering 'rush' seating to games. Estimate how many seats will be open 20 minutes before tip and start selling. I've heard of other arenas doing that.

The last time I remember us doing something like that was Fred's 1st yr (maybe) The AD had a flash sale for the Baylor game put them on sale Fri. for Sat game if I remember right.

People are complaining because the team is losing and looks bad doing it.

Other than the disappointing attendance last night. The crowd did get into the game in the 1st half. but late in the 2nd half there just wasn't much to cheer for we'd get a bucket but couldn't string 3 good possessions together. I was disappointed in all the people that left. Stay till the end but that's just my opinion.

Haven't left early since I started buying season tickets, same with a lot of people I know. There were a lot of empty seats last night, more than I've ever seen at the end of a game that was well attended.

This game seemed to take a lot out of people. Just couldn't get one to drop. Just like we couldn't get past being 4 down to KU. This one was worse, though.
