Big Man Recruiting - Prohm's luck will change

On two boards now, you keep hyping Ernst with ZERO fact to back it up. You have no idea if he will work out and the mistake was not letting him go- it was recruiting him in the first place. He should never have been here and the only reason it bugs anyone is because Carter still is (for now). Ernst is not and never will be the answer to what our problems are right now.

That said, this staff needs to fix that problem ASAP. Hopefully, the grad transfer and coaching change season allows us a nice surprise

This makes no sense considering we have zero productivity from F/C this year. It wouldn't take much for us to get more from that position.

Ernst has gone on to receive offers from Xavier, Pitt and several other programs. Normally we would be jumping for joy landing a post with those offers.

If Carter transfers he will likely end up a a low major program. Kasongo basically had no other options.

The nancys on this board seem to think getting a skilled big is like going to the grocery store and grabbing one off the shelf - especially because Fred left nothing in that category then bolted very late in the recruiting cycle to allow CDP to actually FIND a guy still left on the shelf to recruit.

But we lost a game on the road yesterday to a coach with a BIG time resume so CSP sucks...

Don't forget that if Morris and Burton shoot 50% combined it's likely a win and ISU's probably ranked tomorrow night.

IIRC it's a rarity for ISU to have a legit big and it wasn't much different under the undefeated 8 time NCOY Hoiberg (as some remember it).

That said, even just someone long and active like a McKay would likely be a game changer.

Thik Bol might be the guy we missed on. He was at Iowa Western with DJ, and I know the staff watched him, but I don't think they ever offered a scholarship. I'm guessing he would have taken it, if they had.

He's 6-8 200, averaging 9pts, 7.5 rebs, and 2 blocks per game, and 34 of his 65 field goals have been dunks.

He seems to be a Baylor type of player, or like Khadeem Latin from OU, but we can't be sure he's have this same production in the big 12.

Good memory, i had forgotten about this kid. Put up decent numbers against P5 schools too, 9pts 12 rbs vs Arkansas, 15 & 7 against Minnesota, 6 & 1 against Louisville and 13 & 10 vs Drake (common opponent)

Looking at those numbers, the staff probably should've used a scholarship on Bol over Holden or Kasongo (somewhat TBD)

Biggest mistake to this point IMO was letting Ernst go..Kid has bright future at a periniel Top 25 program now..No clue why this staff decided to push him out or let him go. Bad mistake.

If we cant land another legit PF when we nearly have a McD AA coming in at PG with ISU being a Top 20 program the last 3 years then IDK when it will.

I've seen on a pay site a couple times that Ernst may have punched Georges in the d*** and would intentionally foul teammates in practice to the point of almost injurying starters/starting scuffles. Hell, I was at lied when he table topped Weiler-Babb in a fricking pick up game. He was not the kind of teammate you want in your program.

Then again, these Ernst blow hards will say "that's the toughness we need".

If that's the case I feel like Prohm should be able to handle that.

Get him to understand why you can't injure teammates and turn that aggressiveness to your oppnenents.

LE and Floyd would have seen that as an asset, even if it needed some additional managing.

I'm on all 3 ISU pay sites and I have never seen this.

Then you missed it because it's been discussed

Must be so. I've seen the talk of him being a dirty player and no one really liking him but i've never seen any posts about him punching Niang in the d1ck. not saying it wasnt discussed or it didnt happen i just didnt see it.

Zero? It's pretty reasonable to assume a Juco big guy going to Xavier and doing well at IHCC could be of some benefit. Just a moderate contribution would be a significant resulting impact given the close losses this season, and he'd still have 3 more years.

Ernst certainly has holes as a prospect, but we weighed too heavily what he isn't when what he is (and will be) is far better than what we ended up with.

Although given how Prohm has managed Young, maybe it was Ernst seeking a better place for big men.

Sorry to have to say this, but Prohm better recruit big men better than he shows or his long-term status will be impacted. The last few rebounding games have been disgusting. Last game we could not even get a shot off from underneath. Either he recruits some decent big boys or he better recruit some quality players like Georges. The B12 is too tough. Okie State tried to win with shorter players and they were always also-rans. Here are the Gaels with four giants 6-10 or more and Gonzaga with five giants 6-11 or more.

It was sort of insinuated and not quite as direct.

Can Prohm handle this? Good question.

I really don't have a problem with the posts that we have. The offense was designed for the posts to fail. I don't think the coach made any real effort to get them involved. He had fantasies of of guards carrying the team. It's not a full team and its by flawed design.

Unfortunately it's both, imo
