Conference Prediction for ISU

Why? This team hasn't looked like a lock to finish over 500 in the conference since 2nd half of the Gonzaga game.

Despite not looking good since then they have only dropped slightly in defensive efficiency and rose slightly in offensive efficiency and are still 31st on Kenpom. That and the improved offensive play tells me this team isn't far off from putting it all together. I also think the Big 12 outside of the top 3 isn't that strong.

The past two games they have had their best back to back offensive efficiency games of the year. Also thought the UNO game they played really well and that was after the Gonzaga game.

4 home losses in one year at Hilton. Interesting
That does seem high but it wouldn't surprise me. I think there's a chance we beat one of the top 3 at home(probably WVU) but I'm sure as hell am not going to predict that with how we're playing at this moment in time.

Why does Steve Prohm calls timeouts when the team starts to play well? We would struggle for like 2-3 minutes, turn the ball over or something crazy and he won't do anything. The moment the team gets into a rhythm and starts to score, then he calls a timeout. I swear last night I told my wife when that was going to happen and it did. I don't understand that. Those smart enough to know whats going there, any opinion as to why he does that?

Usually it's done when we are playing ****** on defense. He calls the timeout to get them locked in on defense. I think it makes total sense. To many times we get hot on offense and quit playing defense and we are just trading baskets and not building a lead. He calls the timeout to lock in the defense and hopefully build the lead.

Last year the big 12 finished with 4 teams in the top 15 and 5 in the top 25. 7 teams were at one point ranked in the top 25. This year the league is still good but doesn't have as many quality teams as it did last year. Both Texas and OU were projected to be much better than they are.

Or over-react to a bad game.

I've been known to 'worry too much' about our team, but I'm usually sticking up for coaches and players cuz I know how much work they put into it. Having said that, I don't think 'most' fans are over-reacting to 'a' bad game...rather they see our struggles in more than one or two games, and acknowledge our weaknesses (just like our coach already has). Many watch enough college basketball games to see there are things we are not doing that other good teams may do (with bickering thrown in of course as to whether that's due to ability vs. coaching or performance or mindset). Don't think fans are 'down' on the team but now realize its not as 'easy' as they thought it would be to continue as a ranked team who just wondered about their seeding. We've been spoiled (in a good way) these past five years. Think our front court weaknesses (think about it, no Nader, McKay, and Niang) has made everything else that much more challenging for all involved. Its all in perception. Meaning, saying a 9-9 finish might be a positive or optimistic finish for this particular team. Doesn't have to be a negative or downer or giving up.

It's not just the fans either, anyone follow Travis Hines on Twitter? Go read the last 24 hours worth of his tweets for example.

Hines is always down on the team, he's a feature reporter for a tiny newspaper in an age of dying newspapers and guess what headlines, tweets and features get people to their website?

He's the classic "can't put my finger on it"/"something is wrong with this team" guy and people eat that up. If we were a terrible program with no good players and nobody thought we were going to be good Hines would still be there telling everyone that the team should be so much better and there has to be something going on inside of the team or program that's not out in the public yet.

It kind of just depends on if you think lasts years team underachieved in the league.

They were basically right in line with kenpom. Kenpom has us at about 8.5 wins this year.

maybe stats but not personal wise. Buddy is gone, WVU lost quite a bit, Texas is bad, etc. I just think the star power went down this season. I think 10-8 is resonable though.

Saying Texas is 'bad' is going to bite you in the butt later...... Just kidding, but seriously, they're pretty young and have played a tougher schedule. Smart will have them competitive, imo. Should be some interesting close games for most conference teams ( except for KU, Baylor, and WV probably ) until they play each other.

Best case scenario? Do you know what that means? Obviously not if you think luck could get it to 9-9. Good grief.

I hope if/when we win 10 that you'll come back & just say you were flat wrong. None of that 'well, at THAT time that's what it looked like' crap. I'll predict 10-8 FTR.
Deal.
