Cockiness

You know what I am sick of? The Des Moines Register trying to stir **** up with ISU. Between the **** with McKay last year now this. It looks like it was taken out of context.

This is akin to Trump crying about getting a bad rap from the media for doing their jobs and reporting all the idiotic statements he made. Its a simple solution, if you dont want things to be reported, you should probably keep your mouth shut.

Finally a flippin' Voice of Reason.......We have already lost to one of the worst teams in the country over in iowa city*

*a friend of mine who is a super hawk told me the other day that thee choke eyes er hoks were the worst team in the country and then said....where does that leave prohm and ISU........

The good news is that you're here posting and survived that sick burn from your Hawk friend. Praise be to God.

Our schedule isn't really any different from most major conference teams out there plus our defensive stats are adjusted anyways

I guess I don't really know what you mean when you say that...regarding "most major conference teams".

the fact is, our stats are based on quite a few poor opponents.

ISU schedule is very comparable to a majority of the other teams thus are organically adjusted all team play some poor opponents this time of year (and have more losses to show for it Iowa/UNO or MSU/Northeastern). It obvious the quality will improve in conference season but that will be for all the P5 opponents too.

As for Bowie's comments, I read it as more frustration that ISU isn't performing up to his expectations and not as perceived cockiness. Most the fans were saying the same thing before each of the past 5 ISU games. It is a bad look to say to the media, but it was his true feelings and being a competitor. It puts pressure on Bowie to produce and we'll see if he comes out focused. It should teach him to no speak to the media anything about other opponents. If nothing else it shows the team knows it isn't playing as well as it can even after a "17" point win.

We've played a bunch of cupcakes just like every other team out there. You can't say our defensive stats are skewed because of our schedule because they're adjusted and rebounding has not been a problem so far so I'm not sure why anyone would complain about that.

We've played a tougher schedule that West Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Kansas State so far this season

I'm honestly not trying to argue with anyone here...trying to have an intelligent conversation, but I don't see anything that backs up your argument. Only 4 teams in our conference have a weaker SOS than we do. Nationally, we're middle of that pack...at least based on what I can find.

If we have a average SOS why are you saying our rebounding stats are skewed based on quality of opponents? I don't know why anyone would complain about our rebounding right now

I know "facts" gets tossed around loosely these days, but ISU has had a better offensive and defensive rebounding rate than the opposing team in each game except for 2.

UNO had a better OR% than ISU. Cincinnati had a better OR% and DR% vs. ISU.

A lot of people act as if the sky is falling, but this one the better defensive and rebounding teams ISU has had in quite some time...at the moment. Let's see how this all fares once we get deeper in conference play.

p.s. comparing sheer rebounding tallies makes no sense. Comparing rates provides greater context

I never said our rebounding stats are skewed. I simply think our SOS is weaker and provides a false sense of security. Feels like we're searching for justification on why/how we have played so far this year...which isn't terrible, but somewhat disappointing.

you can "adjust" for stats...but that's a little like a golf handicap...the fact of the matter is that at some point, you have to play better...the score won't be adjusted.

So what stats are skewed because of our SOS?

They dropped 7 spots on defense in Ken Pom after the Drake game and rose a few spots on offense. When the team decides to play defense it has been better. The problem is when they play teams with a pulse they have only played at most a half of game of good defense. But I don't think we will know where this team is at until they start playing some conference games.

Twins...I think you want to argue...reread my first response to you. I didn't mention stats...I said I wasn't sure what you meant by comparing our schedule to other teams.

I don't agree that our opponents have been as challenging as other major schools...and I think to some extent that is supported by our own conference.

I can't argue with our stats...they are what they are...I simply believe they are based on opponents that aren't as tough, ergo I don't feel as confident in what they say as you might.

Cincinnati and Miami were both excellent defensive games from start to finish

I'm not trying to argue you're just not making sense. You first post said "our stats are based on quite a few poor opponents" when we have an average schedule. I honestly have no clue what you're trying to say

Stats are just stats. I think the first thing people are going to realize when conference play starts is our defense isn't as good as we thought. And we are getting out rebounded by teams with legit bigs.

Gonzaga didn't out rebound us and they have legit bigs. I'm more concerned about our offense and shooting the ball then I am about defense or rebounding. No clue why that even got brought up and the sky is falling posters are just latching onto it

He pointed out they are adjusted for this.
