***Iowa postgame thread***

Just watched the Prohm post game, wow, we're in trouble. Still thinks our shooters are our strength??? While I don't think his scheme(whatever it may be) resembles McD, I feel his ability to reach his players and get them incorporate what he wants just isn't there.

Sure hope they can figure something out, and make the NCAA Tournament. Next year we will see a lot of new faces (recruits). We lose half the roster:
Burton
Mitrou-Long
Thomas
Morris
Holden
Bowie

Any objective analyst would say the same. They are our strength. Just not when we're dribbling around for 25 seconds and have to launch late shots. Coach Prohm was mad. Just got to love these universal pronouncements based on a sentence you don't like.

As a team we are shooting 34% from 3.
Monte - 36%
Burton - 41%
Long - 27%
Thomas - 36%
Those 4 combined: 55/165 = 33%

I mean it's not terrible, but if that is our strength we are in for a long season.

Our strength thus far is our defense, which is surprising and encouraging.

We had 11 games out of 105 in the prior 3 years under 50% True Shooting Percentage. We've had 4 in 9 games so far this year.
Yep.

Makes Monte's quote even worse. Unless Prohm can pull out the improbable, this team is a fringe NIT club. Could be close to Hoiberg's first year results wise.

I also don't like Monte's comments in the last two losses. Basically blowing off the losses saying 'just didn't shoot good'. That makes me think he doesn't think they need to do anything different.

We whiffed BIGTIME on the interior. Like whiffed by epic proportions. I'm not sure what they saw in Holden, but that guy.... wow.

I don't think its what they saw......its what is left when you don't get Livingston, Curry, etc., etc., etc. or others.

JFC!!!! You have to be kidding right? Prohm isn't game planning a slow tempo like McD did! We are playing slow because this team has no offensive identity right now. We aren't getting buckets in transition because we can't rebound the ball cleanly and get the quick outlet pass. That is a huge difference and to even make a Prohm/McD comparison is a complete insult.

True. McD's last year we had 70.6 possessions per game. This year we are at 69.7, so we are playing slower.

McD's last year we shot 47.5% from 2 and 37% from 3. This year we're shooting 51% from 2 and 34% from three. So in some ways it's worse and some ways it's better.

A large amount of this is scheduled in between seasons. This ain't football with schedules years in advance.
You are correct regarding the buy games but the quality home and away games are scheduled further out. The high number of quality holiday tournaments have mad scheduling more difficult as well.

I don't think he hated coaching/recruiting as much as specifically he didn't like coaching here. The story that was used was a good way to get out of here though.

Like I said, I think he goes back to college sooner rather than later. And probably at a school we play often.

This isn't about us going around and around on this board at all, but you're just wrong. A relative of mine worked in his program for four years and he hated recruiting. Can remember a specific time when a recruit's parent made demands, and Holberg simply said to him, "thats why you want to work in the NBA". Plus, he had told former NBA peers he wanted to coach in the NBA before he even took the ISU job. But think what you want. If for some reason he doesn't make it in the NBA (which I still think he will do just fine) and he goes back to college ball out of necessity, then I'll kiss your feet.

This the worst loss in the last 5 years Iowa is terrible they are joke a team of freshman and 1 senior who refuses to play defense!!!!!

Appears for one night that Iowa wanted it more, Monte needs to keep his mouth shut and just play the game. Young guys don't know they are not supposed to win.

I didn't say that we aren't playing at a slower pace this year. I said that we aren't playing slow intentionally like the McD era. It all starts with the ball movement. Our possessions per game are down because we don't work for an open look and we are eating a ton of clock. I can guarantee you Prohm isn't happy with our pace of play either.

"More difficult" is pure crap. Good programs have no trouble putting together good schedules. We just choose not to, which is a very troubling choice.

It's not inaccurate either. There is no reward for Iowa State to load up their schedule the way KU, Mich. St, Duke, etc do. I completely agree with you that our schedule is soft this year and that moving forward we need to schedule some tough games. The H&A with Mizzou does not move the needle there. To be fair, there's probably not a lot of top tier teams chomping at the bit to play a game in Hilton either.

Another reason why I can't wait to be rid of Pollard maybe we can get an AD that is more serious about winning in the real sports rather than the final standings of the Leerfield Director's Cup.

False dichotomy. Doesn't need to be the MSU/KU schedule, but there are good teams like Creighton, Xavier, Butler, and more that need games just like we do. Sign 3-4 of those for each noncon to get some strength in that schedule.

Good teams will come to Hilton. Even a loss at Hilton is better than most of the wins out there to get. That's just an excuse that we let ourselves run with to pretend that our schedule is the best we can do.

We don't necessarily need to play top teams, it's more about playing teams in the 100-200 range rather than teams that are 300+ in the RPI year in and year out. Play MVC or MAC or Horizon league teams instead of MEAC and SWAC teams.

why does it have to be in Hilton? Play UNC in Chicago or Arizona in Kansas City.

Who cares? I'm sure they want to do a lot of things differently and better. The fact is we are playing slow. Our true shooting % is 205th in the country. It is slightly worse than McD's 2010 team. This is absolutely ugly offense on par or worse than McD era ball and we're still playing by far the softest part of the schedule. Stats don't lie.
