Flying is hard

Let's see...
  • Land purchase
  • Creating a job for former Iowa speaker of house
  • Having the university purchase a type of plane that you're certified to fly
  • Using university plane for personal use
  • Wrecking university plane
  • Paying for repairs and for the other university plane to come pick you up with a university account created through private donations
  • Violating several university policies and possibly some laws
  • Covering it all up until media uncovers it 14 months later
To say this is another case of bad judgment would be an understatement. I'm thinking this could be the end for Dr. Leath.

So a couple things as a pilot.
1. They walked away. That is the first priority.
2. If his story is true it sounds like he may have been behind the plane to begin with or did not have much cross wind experience in the sr22.
3. Pretty sure this does qualify as a reportable incident.
4. That is relatively cheap.

It is all a cover up which does not make me happy. Not to mention the FAA and IRS will now come calling.

I think the board of regents will have a problem with Leath. This is really kinda bad - potentially using school property for personal reasons, insurance and liability...

You've been away from Iowa for too long. This is exactly the type of behavior the board of regents excuses. Rasteter is a rat and he hired leath.

It won't be. Did you forget who is in charge? The rat.

I've never personally had any problem with Leath, as I think he's been put in some pretty difficult decisions and had to figure out how to defuse them.

However, this all (at least in how it was presented, which MAY be biased) sounds pretty damning. This doesn't sound like particularly good decision-making, and it sounds like his solution for covering it up by using an emergency fund rather than, say, buying a ticket for a commercial airline out of his own pocket, is pretty foolhardy.

I will be curious if there's an inquiry into this.
