***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

IMO, something like Arizona, ASU, and CU are probably what is needed to entice OU to stay. There was an article linked here several months ago stating that Boren fancies himself as an intellect, and fancies the Big Ten and Pac-12 because those leagues are loaded with prestigious academic schools (AAU types). Arizona and Colorado are AAU schools, so maybe getting a couple of those back in the Big 12 might satiate his intellectual desires.

That's cute. OU would be to B1G/Pac-12 as WVU is to the Big 12.

Wasn't all this research into potential expansion candidates done months ago by the research firm that the Big 12 hired to investigate the feasibility of expansion? This 17-team video conference interview thing seems to me like a big ruse. I feel sad for all those schools, because I think they are just wasting a bunch of money on this. IMO, if there is going to be expansion, there is already a short list (or maybe even a final list), an the rest is just smoke and mirrors.

I still feel that all of the G5 schools are a waste of time, and are just delaying the inevitable breakup in 2025. I don't really care for Berry Trammel, but he is at least somewhat connected, and he continues to claim that OU wants out...or maybe he is just feeding diversionary propaganda.

Trammel has an agenda.

SIAP, but the last school on the list of 17 in the ESPN article is Arkansas State (they updated the article):

"Among the 17 schools that will make their presentations to the Big 12 are Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, UCF, UConn, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, Tulane, Temple, East Carolina, SMU, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Diego State and Arkansas State, sources said."

Honestly, I hope that's either a smokescreen for our true intentions or it's blackmail to get the networks to pay us more money to stay at 10.

That be one sad list of candidates. We knew it would be slim pickings but to see it spelled out.....ugh

Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, Central Florida, UConn, Memphis, Boise State, Colorado State, Temple, Tulane, East Carolina, SMU, New Mexico and Northern Illinois. ??

are you effing kidding me? Cincy, BYU are the only ones with value. (academics, athletics, national stature) What the h#ll are we wasting our time talking to old WAC and MAC schools??

You people who hate Texas be careful what you wish for. Bowlsby forces a few of these crap schools on us, Texas and OU will leave the Big 12

Let's see, lets trade 85,000-90,000-seat stadiums for NIU and New Mexico and Colo St----and their 18,000-27,000 crowds. Yes...MAKES A LOT OF SENSE

Good gawd A & M and Nebraska left with huge FB followings----and we want to further water down this conference? Because Texas and OU are too good and don't play "fair"

screw that. Political correctness and the whiners out there need to stay out of this process.

There is a hierarchy in every corporation, conference. Life isn't fair. So you think the U of Iowa is going to rock the boat because Michigan, Mich St., Ohio State, and Penn St help subsidize their athletic department?

Rumor on the college sports nation forum from a BYU fan that says he is well connect, the BYU will be pulling out of candidacy for the big 12 over the social media backlash from LGBT and sexual assault cases.

Apparently the big 12 approached BYU with issues about the honor code but BYU couldn't agree to the terms and they both decided to part ways.

He also said BYU's Board of Trustees has grown tired of the publicity and doesn't think athletic conference affiliation is worth the negative publicity and mud flinging that has gone on. As a result, BYU has withdrawn their candidacy. And the Big 12 has moved on.

The most interesting part was his last paragraph where he said: two schools were particularly responsible for stirring the hornets' nest with the LGBT groups. And that is a shame. You guys couldn't win on metrics. You won on dirty play. Congratulations.

He also says This will be done behind closed doors. It won't be announced by the Big 12 nor BYU because the Big 12 doesn't seek to embarrass BYU and BYU doesn't want any more publicity on this.

On further thought with this BYU news I'd love to see 14, which isn't going to happen now. But if it did, and assuming no P5 team is leaving their current confernece...

Air Force and Colorado state. Give CSU some big boy money and see if they can take over Colorado like we've done in the State of Iowa.

Out east is Cincy and Houston.

Do you think Air Force would be all sports or football only? I think their wresting is in the big 12? I only wonder because I think their basketball would be around Tech's level or even worse TCU.

I remember someone from Air Force stating that they would not be interested. He didn't think it would be a good fit or good for their players.
