I hate trying to organize get-togethers for my family when they come into town. Everyone wants to do something different than grill out and talk/play cards/etc. So I do some research, make some calls and come up with about 4-5 options that 15-20 people can do on a weekend night in Kansas City. And all I get is flack about how much something costs or how long the wait is.

Cuz there are soooo many options of awesome things to do for $15-$20/person where there will be no waiting involved. :skeptical:

JC, Saturday my 8 yo became a 9 yo. What I miss the most is the patter of a three year old running across the floor early Saturday morning and jumping into our bed.

Had to return the freshman's tux from prom this morning. Wife made me go to the grand March Saturday (actually needed a tractor break so it was a reason). I still was unsure why he'd want to go to prom with who he did, wasn't that close of a friend (and while very athletic, she qualified for 3 events at Drake this weekend, she is far from an attractive girl). Then the first couple came out. A junior guy and my son's sophmore girlfriend. It struck me, they both found a way to make prom while not being old enough.
Kids are way too clever.

Our youngest kid took a shower Saturday Night. We had my 18 month old nephew staying with us and my wife gave him a bath in the kid's bathroom just prior to her shower. To give the nephew a bath, my wife placed the shower curtain liner outside of the tub. Our youngest one didn't put the liner back inside the tub and took a long shower. We became aware of this situation when my son, sitting at the island in the kitchen, alerted us to the fact that water was dripping down the light fixture onto the island.

The last couple of days we have had box fans placed horizontally on top of step ladders blowing on the ceiling and 2 oscillating fans blowing on the floor in the bathroom. Luckily, there's no insulation between these two floors and everything seems to be drying out pretty good. We will need to touch up the water stains on the ceiling and there is a pretty significant amount of that going on.

Earlier in the day, she pitched the first 2 innings of her softball game, with help from the hitters, she surpassed my goal of 1 strike for every 5 pitches. With the mask on that they make the pitchers wear she kind of looked like the cute little ten year old girl version of Hannibal Lechter.

Last time I was in KC we went to the roller derby (this was a guy's weekend). I would cross that off your list if that is one of the choices. Even though one of the roller derby queens was named Kitty Kitty it just wasn't very entertaining.

I apologize to any of you roller derby enthusiasts out there but that is just my opinion.

My wife grew up watching roller derby. About 15 years ago, we went to one of their practices. My wife worked with one of the girls on the team and thought about trying out. After 20 really uncomfortable minutes, my wife decided it wasn't gonna be for her. My wife was more than welcome, but the presence of my testosterone was not appreciated at all.

I knew a couple of women that were in the Omaha Rollergirls so I went to a few matches a few years back. One got married and had a kid, her husband had two kids from previous marriage and she said she was just too busy to do it anymore. Haven't been to a match in quite a while. It's ok for something different to do but I wouldn't become a dedicated fan.

So I saw several references to a 9/11 conspiracy thread and BDK in the cave so I went over and took a gander. Read the whole thread...

Even the toddlers. We were having Z repeat words after us while we waited in line at a restaurant. We were going through different languages for hello and thank you. I saw an ISU student looking at us like "She can repeat foreign words!" Then we tried to think of vocabulary words to get her to repeat. She's pretty good at circumnavigate. Her dad then starts saying longer/harder words that I'm not sure how to spell, because it would only be found on the GRE. :jimlad:

For those with younger kids around, it is fun to see how much of a sentence they can repeat. I think circumnavigate was supposed to be in a sentence with Magellan. This morning I was coaching her to help dad by telling him what to take to school.

question for running peoples - this is my running schedule the last couple weeks:

Saturday the 9th - 4 miles
Thursday the 14th - 2.75 miles
Tuesday the 19th - 4.5 miles

weekend work and evening events have kept me from running as much as I would like. So now the 5 mile race is this Saturday. I have not run since Tuesday. Tuesday's run my ankle started hurting just over 2 miles which is an improvement from it starting at like 1.5. So the extra time off seemed to help that. That was also my fastest pace over 3 miles since staring back up.

I had hoped to get 5 miles in over the weekend but no luck. At this point I'm thinking I could skip gym today and run 5 miles or I could maybe get in a couple miles Thursday. My question is am I better off at this point not trying to run and just waiting until Saturday, or should I try to get more mileage in by the weekend? 11 days between runs seems like a lot but my last break seemed to help both speed and ankle.

Rupture your achilles and have someone run for you. That has worked in the past.
