The rather lengthy/wordy email message earlier this month about this year's process said we would get our date/time assignment in mid-April with the actual online selection happening the last two weeks of April and first week of May. I realize we're nowhere near the top of the Cyclone Club donor amount list, but this is into the last two weeks of April and it's making me a little nervous to have heard nothing yet.

You're not alone.

I have not heard anything yet. I checked this morning as I was thinking the same thing as you as far as a notification for date and time to log into my account.

Does anyone else think this could end up being a cluster. IMO they should just go number every spot, allow you to pick who you want to be by and let you pick your number and that is your spot until you give it up or cannot afford it anymore.

I've found that tailgaters have a little bit of trouble remaining within the lines...

Must be why so many spots seemed open and I'm just across the street from trice. Thought it seemed funny. I parked in the grass last year and didn't up my level.

You ever been in a tailgating lot in Ames before? People driving all over the lots for their spot. Driving where people are running around playing games drinking beer . . .

The parking lots are terrible . pot holes, no stall lines and people taking up two spots and blocking aisles

I refer you to those "guarding" the lots (at least those north of the stadium) who block every entrance except one to each lot. Apparently they expect every single vehicle to be able to drive directly to their desired spot without a)leaving that lot and b)driving the wrong way down an aisle. Not only is that impossible, but it's really poor planning. Those who want to park near the main drive between lots get the benefit of having no one drive behind them as well as being able to use way more than their one parking space because of the barricade there.

And yes, I wish the lots would be resurfaced and stall lines repainted, and that specific in/out driving lanes be established. I'd settle for the first two.

I have trouble walking over uneven surfaces or long distances so we finally opted for the paved lots. We live in rural Story County, and we're not real big on partying or tailgating (it's just the two of us), so we were the ones that were guilty of trying to drive through and find a parking spot in our section, maneuvering around somewhat drunk adults and frequently unsupervised kids, and vehicles & tents extending well past the parking space into the driving space.

We no longer go to the games because it just got to be too hard on my back. But speaking for others like us, it would be nice if there were one or two small sections for season ticket holders that do NOT tailgate...so that we don't disturb the people who want to tailgate. One thing that those "guards" on the north lots did was guide the "latecomers" safely through the tangle of tailgaters so that no one was injured or angered. And when I say "latecomers" - we were usually there well before kick-off.

KC, I'm not pointing fingers at you. I know people will get to the lots after most of the spots have been filled. I understand the need for assistance in finding a legitimate spot and moving the scofflaws out of the way. I was mostly talking about making those who get there earlier than some and later than others have to wheel around the lot instead of driving the correct direction because there's only one entrance to the lot.
When all but one entrance is blocked, almost by definition that encourages people to set up camp out in the drive area because they know others most likely won't even try to drive there. It might be a matter of not enough people to "guard" against unauthorized vehicle access :) but making it more difficult and more dangerous to drive legitimately is not the answer.
And I still don't have an email about my parking lot selection date and time.

No worries - I didn't think you were. I was just giving the non-tailgater pov on the parking situation. We got glared at sooooo much! Does seem silly to block things off early, I was never there early, but maybe they were having trouble getting people to follow the "one vehicle one space" rule? That really is a problem in the north lots. People spread out early on, and are not willing to rein back in when the lots start filling up.

I got ahold of the athletics department yesterday, and, it sounds like early May is the goal now. So, it'll definitely be late May by the time it happens

Every year. How will this change that?

I'm just in the grass lots, but they generally put you in in the order you show up. So the only active traffic is on the roads and the rows they're just filling.

Seems like a better system to me
