Friday afternoon, I was sitting at the table with my daughter. I hear the garage door go up and my wife pull in. A minute later I hear some weird scream. 30 second later, my phone rings. It's my wife. I'm like, WTF.

"uh, hello."
"There's a snake."
stifled laugh with an eye roll by me "Is it alive?"
"It's big"
"So what d.."
"Just get out here!!"

Here's what I see:

I'm standing at the door looking at my wife (who's in the driveway and not very amused)

"Do you want me to throw you a rake so you can get rid of it?"

<angry glare>

Vacuum bagging the rest of the ribs from last night, so I throw on some Amazon Prime music rather than a podcast since I'll only be half listening. Notice the station called "Christian Hip-Hop"....ah, what the hey...let's see what's here...yeah, it's weird. Not bad, but just weird.

that is not ok

that is not ok

Sucker was about 4 foot long.

I carried him with a rake to the end of my driveway before he decided that he wasn't a fan and slithered to the ground. Then I shoved him like a curling stone down the sewer. I don't know what kind he was, but I didn't want him in my garage. If he comes back up through my toilet, I'll know he's of the genus vindictivus.

ha, that was my first thought when you said sewer. That I hope he doesn't come back! Was he just some kind of generic garden snake? 4ft seems pretty big for that. Maybe a baby python? :jimlad:

that a/c thread got me thinking about the good ole days back home. Dirt/limestoney basement, 100+ year old two story farmhouse with no a/c...nothing like sweating all night and fighting siblings for the prime spot on the floor to lay in front of the rotating fan. Ahhhh, and that is why we had a pool. It was probably good that we didn't have a/c at the farm though. Probably would have had too much heat stroke baling hay or milking in that weather if we were more used to the temp control.

Don't think I slept much last night even with the dinky fan blowing...just couldn't stay cooled off. Pretty sure DH didn't sleep well either - he always had a/c growing up. I was thinking about 2am how it was going to be nice to not deal with this in a week! Unless the unit breaks, I suppose. But we'll have a real (unfinished) basement that we could take refuge in at least.

78mph gust at the Field of Dreams and it triggered a tstorm warning here. Welp, this might be a fun day. Sure hope the house doesn't have anything happen.

Upon completion of the assigned task, did you make the required tube snake reference (e.g. That 4 foot monster's got nothing on my tube snake)?

If not, please make this reference. Wive's appreciate the fact that they don't appreciate these comments even though they know we are going to make them every time.

Speaking of which, weather guys....that well formed bow isn't a good sign, is it?

not generally. Well, I don't think it has as high of a risk for tornadoes, but it has the crazy straight line winds at the front end.

Well, of course I made the obligatory trouser snake reference. I would be impolite not to.

I'm not looking forward to the day when my daughter catches on to our innuendo. I pride myself on inappropriate comments made during the course of normal conversation.

Don't worry about when your daughter gets older. You just learn to say it more quietly or come up with some excuse to make her leave for a moment. Inappropriate comments never get old.

Edit: To paraphrase Dazed and Confused, "Your children may get old but the inappropriate comments you make that you don't want them to hear never do."
