***Official 2015 NHL Playoff Thread***

No offense taken, but they still have a strong core, and lead the league in puck possession, just gotta get the Goals against back down to more normal levels the Kings are accustomed too.
Plus they just beat the crap out of teams in the playoff's.

This Hawks/Lightning series really lacked hard hits, and it was still low scoring.

That's because hitting isn't the only way to play great defense. Both teams did an excellent job of getting sticks into the passing lanes, blocking shots, etc. And, other than a couple bad goals, both goalies were strong throughout.

I'm not sure what kind of restructuring they can do (I also don't know as much about NHL deals as I do with other sports). The NHL does have at least some say over contracts (the Ilya Kovalchuk deal a few years ago being an example; Hossa and Keith's deals are both similar, but not quite as backloaded), but I don't think they can stop a player from accepting less money to stay with his team, even if it's a deal that grossly underpays the player.

The good thing is that Teravainen is still young and cheap for a little while, and they might be able to give Saad a longer deal for less money than he could be worth in a couple years (Montreal got burned by P.K. Subban like that; he was willing to sign a 5-year deal for 25 million, but they went with a bridge contract for two years and then his value skyrocketed and they had to give him a megadeal to keep him).

I could see Sharp working to restructure since, by the time his deal is up, he's not going to get another big deal because of his age and he might want to stick around to win another title or two before he hangs it up.

NHL contracts cannot be restructured. They can front load them and spreadout the cap hit. But once the deal is done its done.

Yep, nothing wrong with it, but hockey struggles as a 4th sport as it is, and part of its charm is hard hits.
Good series. I think a team like Rangers, or Caps would have brought more of an edge.

Also the west is so good, its pretty forgone conclusion winner of the west takes the cup.

Well that answers that question.

Kings are stuck with Mike Richards, you can't imagine how I wish that deal could be re-done.
They can buy him out, but the remaining balance of the contract is prorated over the entire life of the deal and is deducted from a teams cap through then end of the contract.

So if the Kings owe the guy 14 million and it was a 10 year deal Kings lose 1.4 million from their cap.

Now if dude retires before the end of the contract, its is much worse..

Yeah, maybe it's the hard hits. Maybe not. Personally, I'm more of a finesse guy and also like the anticipation of a good play buildup. But I also like soccer, so what the hell do I know? :spinny:

At least with playoff hockey, I disagree. I know loads of people who don't care about any team or the regular season, but they tune in during the playoffs because the intensity/helter-skelter/speed level goes through the roof. They (and I) get off more on a faster game than a slugfest. And it feels like hockey has a greater disparity between the regular season and postseason than any other American sport in that regard. If that could be consistently matched in the regular season, I think hockey would be a lot more popular.

It's not that I don't appreciate a team that can lay the lumber, but I was thoroughly entertained watching two speedy teams trying to do the same things and waiting to see which would be better at it on a given night.

Each style brings their own entertainment value no doubt. I also think if people see the sport live, they get hooked.. No better sport to watch live.
Actually they probably need to continue to reduce the size of goalie equipment.

These goalies are 6'6" and take up a huge area, they don't a bunch more padding to help them cover even more o of the net.

I've met John McDonough a couple of times, he goes to the same butcher I do. I see him in there a couple of times a year and the owner of the shop has a picture with him and John holding the cup from 2013 on the meat counter. Hopefully I see him in there this week and can work out a deal to get a picture with the cup.

Hope you get a chance, was fortunate to take a picture with it a couple of times.. 1 time in a bar with some of the players. That was pretty fun.

Between buying NHL 10 just to try it out and the 2010 Winter Olympics, I got hooked. I used to hate being labeled as a bandwagon Blackhawks fan, but it just so happened that I found I enjoyed hockey that year. I needed a team, and the Blackhawks made all the sense in the world (proximity, I was already a Cubs fan, most of my friends who followed hockey were Chicago fans, and they were good). Plus, bringing in more fans like me was exactly what Rocky wanted when he put home games on TV. Tough to get new fans when people just getting into hockey can't see you play.

Clearly the finesse game works for the Hawks and clearly the physical play works for you guys. That is what is great about this sport.

Very cool, I need to get my hands on those to put in the cave!

I am 1000% certain your best friends porch isn't Wrigley field. That is the Cubby Bear at clark and addison, and that is the view from a top Wrigley.

That said it would be awesome if it was his porch cause then his name would be Ricketts and he could get us all in Wrigley for a huge cup party!

Thought that was Clark St.

Just know that the Finesse game is Hoiball. and the physical play game is B1G ball. No one likes BIG Ball. But that is what it equates to. To me it is amazing the Hawks have now won two cups without an enforcer, Bickell and Seabrook are the only two guys that consistently hit, and neither of them are close to being great at it. That and Bickell is just a pile of poop!

We have heard for 6 years that the Hawks will wear down in the playoffs, and in 3 of those six years they won the cup.

The term bandwagon fan is such a stupid monicker, who cares if some people just started liking a team, a fan is a fan, and NHL teams need as many as they can get.

I remember when the Kings would have like 10,000 in the stands maybe, while it was nice if you wanted to stretch out, it sucked for atmosphere. Now there is a waiting list for LA Kings season tickets, and I welcome all those new fans with open arms. :-)

Glad you found the sport, sell it to others...
