Coaching Search

I want to care about the coaching search but I just can't make myself. With the way this has all played out it's hard not to just concede that the program will go back downhill, although I really hope that's not the case.
I'm feeling the opposite. I'm so glad the Hoiberg drama is finally coming to a close. I've already moved on. I'm not going to pour salt in my own wounds thinking about the "what could have happened if he stayed".

Now the exciting part begins. Can't wait to see who we get! I have my personal favorites, and there are some options that will be slightly disappointing, but I'm going to do my best to be optimistic regardless who is chosen.

If you base the success of a season on one or two games in the NCAA tournament, you are going to be disappointed A LOT. I would have hoped we learned that this past year. Stating that the new coach must take us AT LEAST to the sweet 16 is ridiculous. Upsets happen, even to the best teams. I'd rather they be graded on the other 30 games played next year.

I like how the next coach has to make the sweet 16 with this team that Hoiberg left. However, Fred could not even get past the field of 64 with this team. So JP is in trouble if he hires a guy that stuggles his first year. What if the new guy wins the big 12 tourney and gets a 3 seed and loses in the first round? JP deserves fired?

Would anyone call the ending of this year anything but disappointing? No. It was massively disappointing. Hoiberg had the track record to show it was an anomalous finish.

Someone without that track record leading us to a disappointing finish, combined with looking at a downturn for 16-17 and youre damn right the heat will escalate quickly. Thats why you have to have someone that's ready to be a head coach from day 1.

My goodness, it's Ned Flanders.....

Well, kind of partially kidding, Like...I can't be that positive yet, but at least you're not flailing about in misery like some.

On Le Gesse's list I would get behind, in this order: Jeff, Underwood, Otz, Nurse, and Mann.

Anyway, it isn't up to me. #TeamJeff

Haha, I had a feeling I'd get a reaction like that.

@BobbyLaGesse: Who are the candidates to replace Fred Hoiberg? http://t.co/yITj48yexK http://t.co/EUxJZp21k1

My reaction to the idea that LaGesse could have new information, and then opening and reading the link:

I'll put my vote in for Nurse with TJ as lead assistant.

The NCAA Tourny was a disappointment (1 game). I thought the rest of the season was pretty great. Basing the success of a coach on one or two game in the tournament is foolish. Hawk fans did it with Tom Davis and their program has still never recovered. The tournament is and always will be a crap shoot.

Then, again, I would say JP's future rests with the success of next years team, whatever coach is hired, if the team performs way below expectations (ie sweet 16 minimum?), then he made the wrong coaching decision because we have a top ten team in talent! Otz would also be on the line!! Fred left it this way, they best perform!

So with that line of thinking. Fred was probably on the hot seat for losing to UAB with this year's team.

I follow your thinking, but the tournament is a funny thing. Sometimes not funny at all. A great regular season and a very deep tournament run would be great 15-16 season, but there's probably no panic for job security as long as one of the two is achieved.
