How will the players react??

Why "ouch"? From the way I read it, he is encouraging his current and future teammates to stick with their commitments to isu. That's encouraging, not "ouch"

I'll have what you're drinking. What I see is a guy ****** his coach is leaving after indicating he'd be around. I have long admired Matt for sticking around after continually getting recruited over.

TJ will be the new coach, 3 year contract, about 1 million a year. The players will be pleased.

I think he'll be the coach as well, but that contract would be too weak, especially on the years. If I'm a recruit, I think he's a temporary coach. Commit to him or go elsewhere.

Which doesn't matter if you think you're going to be a one and done or a two and done. There isn't much middle ground anymore. There are guys that are going to leave early. There are guys that think they are going to leave early but end up not being as good as they thought they were going to be and transfer no matter who the coach is. Then there are 4 year guys that are going to stay at a school for 4 years and they aren't that good so we don't care.

Now there are some exceptions like Ejim and Niang, and if you find one them the coach is going to have enough success to get an extension fairly quickly anyway.

We may never know but Fred leaving has been in the works for at least the last 2-months.

That is likely true, but doesn't really matter to this situation. The question is how long has Matt Thomas known about the deal and did he know for a fact that Hoiberg was leaving when he gave the interview. How long the deal was in the works doesn't matter, unless MT knew about it from the beginning. Even if MT did know for a fact that Hoiberg was leaving, it's still possible that Hoiberg told Thomas he was staying when he saw him in his offices after the season was over. I wouldn't doubt that because as already menitoned, people tend to lie about their true intentions in these kinds of situations.

I'm not going to bash Hoiberg on this, but I don't have any fondness or emotional attachment to him either so I'm not going to overly defend him or his character. He did what he did and I understand why he did it, but from what I've heard in the news media, I don't like how he did it. I won't be following him in his future career after what he pulled, but I won't be sending him any hate mail either.

The whole situation could wind up being a blessing in disguise. Brings the team closer together and reduces expectations(at least nationally). Puts us back in more of an underdog role. With a little luck and some hard work, this team can still be the best team in ISU history and I'm hoping that becomes reality.

Well said.

And, if there was some talks a few months ago, Fred would have to be very tight lipped as any info shared with anyone could really look bad or make the deal go south. I've even thought, wouldn't you LOVE to have been in the Hoiberg household to hear how they handled all of this in regards to communication? Obviously the kids/close family knew he was doing this "why is dad gone for a few days?" but couldn't tell even their closest friends.

I've been through the stages of grief...I'm moving on...thank you Fred, you did great things...but now i'm ready to cheer super loud for these young men on the team and whomever is leading them.

Just want this team to know that we love them and that we are very proud of everything they have accomplished (especially those GPAs) and that we are excited to part of their 2015-16 season.

Just weird to see what Matt had to gain from lying about this, why would be say what he said, then retweet this. He must have an agenda to make Fred look bad on his way out.

Whoa....emotions are bound to run high. But please refrain from suggesting a player's agenda or putting more words in his mouth. The players need time to get over losing their coach, too. They're the most affected by this and just need our support.

Your scenario means we're only recruiting top 25-50 type players and transfers. I think not having Fred here changes our ability somewhat to get or rely on getting these type players. We didn't get 1 or 2 and done high school players with him here and the transfers were, I think, very drawn to the program because of him.

Welcome to a nice little taste of adversity. It's the Iowa State way and we fight through it one more time.

TJ gets to campus. Immediately gets 4 star top 100 commitment. TJ isn't going to be going away from those top guys, it's just going to be different top guys. Look at the offers he's already thrown out. TJ probably wouldn't have been in on Diallo, but I think we're going to make it a lot farther in the Greek Freek II recruitment now for example.

Well according to what Jeremy posted in the other thread, yes.

I guess I've only seen the angle that Otz recruited most of them, so thats a comfortability. Whats best for our program long term, who knows. Only Naz and Niang would know much about any X & O knowledge, practice or preparation, and/or game day coaching. The rest never had him as a coach. Which brings me to a question......does an AD, Pollard or any AD, bring in Naz and Georges to get a feel for that type of thing, or does he avoid any possible drama due to that type of thing? I wouldn't know what is best, but I do know that Georges and Naz are proud Cyclones and the face of our program right now.

Players will have to react with understanding. This thing has drug out so long even they will have accepted the truth long before all of us have. I really don't see anyone as a flight risk, so I think we will be just fine.
