The Ames Tribune's Cyclone Slant podcast from today has some pretty good input from Travis Hines.

From what he gathers, ISU is pretty much out on Diallo so their recruiting strategy of swinging for the fences with top ten rated guys will probably end going into 2016 unless they make sense geographically or there is a relationship there.

He specifically mentioned the Malik Monk recruitment will die out this summer mostly because there is no geographic or relationship advantage for ISU so it will end.

Makes sense to me.

I hope when they back off Monk, though, that they give him a call and say why they're backing off but that ISU is of course still interested. Just to be polite, but also just in case he does actually want to come here...

You can make a pretty good team based on 30-100 guys.

I didn't think Hines ment ISU will "only" target 50-100 type players rather players that make sense regionaly and have strong AAU contacts with Fred's assistants . If a top 10 player is in Minnesota, Kansas City, Wisconsin, Brewster HS (OTZ) and Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois (Mann) I expect the staff to still recruit them.
For example, ISU is still focused on Bridges who is top 30 and Coffee who is top 50 and could move up if healthy.

In today's college basketball recruiting, 30 is a long ways from 10 or 15.

So are there any names out there other than Nick Noskowiak and Cheick Diallo that we know ISU is pursuing for 2015? I still think we need frontcourt depth.

The NJCAA player of the year as of about 30 minutes ago apparently.

T.J. tweeted earlier he was flying out to recruit, and there was a rumor on the board he was heading to Virginia.
If true, I think he's heading to the Nike EYBL. Looking at the prospects it makes a lot sense. Time to meet and greet Monk, Bridges, King, and Brown. Looks like a talented event wouldn't be surprised to hear of some more offers soon.

What
: Nike EYBLWhere: Hampton, Va.
When: April 10-12
Top Players: Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum, Malik Monk, Tyus Battle, V.J. King, Udoka Azubuike, Tony Bradley, De’Aaron Fox, Mamadi Diakite, Alterique Gilbert, Bruce Brown, DeJon Jarreau, Rodney Miller, Miles Bridges, Troy Brown, Michael Porter, Zach Brown, Wendell Carter, Jeremiah Tilmon, D.J. Harvey, Matt Coleman.

@TravisHines21: Hoiberg said things for recruiting next weekend are still being decided, but I’d imagine DOP Micah Byers will be on the road recruiting.

@TravisHines21: Byers went on the road last year when Hoiberg was recovering from having the battery in his pacemaker changed.

So, is he just a substitute so-to-speak? Or has he had experience & can help pull some prospects in? Jw.

Probably already in here somewhere, but just saw that TJ seems to have recently followed Kostas Antetokounmpo, Giannis's younger brother, on twitter. Think he's a HS soph or Jr, not sure.

Anyone know if we're recruiting him? Definitely seems worth a look.

This kid will be big time after AAU season. Played high school ball with Diamond Stone in Milwaukee area. He's a junior, 2016 class.

As for Byars going out in Fred's place. This is for evaluation purposes during spring AAU. Coaches can't really do much other than watch games. Only negative is Fred is instantly recognizable, Micah Byars not so much.

Cassius Winston really tore it up at Boo Williams with Miles Bridges. It may be tough to get him out of Michigan, but he'd be a perfect replacement for Monte. Our 2016 class really needs to be a monster.

I'd be surprised if Fred goes out recruiting at all this summer. It seems as though he had a lot of unusual complications from his heart surgery---the need for the pacemaker and the incident when he got home, etc.

I'd rather he take too much time off then not enough.

Kostas is starting to get noticed, he is playing at the Nike EYBL and I guessing TJ saw him and expressed ISU interest this weekend (Yakwe too). Found a recap.

"Two players that stood out for Playground Elite in their loss to the Houston Hoops were three-star junior forwards Bryce Nze and Kostas Antetokounmpo. At 6-foot-6, Nze is a pretty good athlete who makes some jumpers and will do some work around the rim. A smart player, he had 16 points, four rebounds and five assists.
The younger brother of Milwaukee Bucks star-in-the-making Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kostas looks just like his older brother. The Whitefish Bay (Wisc.) Dominican combo forward is 6-foot-8 of arms, legs and elite level athleticism and quickness. He lacks strength and is still learning the American game, but he makes some plays with his length and athleticism that nobody else in the gym can make. He's young and quite raw on the offensive end but his physical tools give him a chance to develop into a really good player. He's not yet received an offer and mentioned Cincinnati and Marquette as two schools that have showed interest. The offers will be coming soon. Antetokounmpo could eventually make a push for the 2016 Rivals150."

"Kassoum Yakwe was an energy giver the entire game in the PSA Cardinals' evening session win over the New Jersey Playaz. A big mover in the recent 2016 rankings update, the 6-foot-7 Yakwe backed up his top-50 status. He was grabbing rebounds all over the place, going to the basket strong and making hustle plays during a strong 15 point, 10 rebound and four block effort."

If his aortic valve replacement goes good, he may not need the pacemaker at some point. Previous Leakage or regurgitation around the valve required the backup safety device.

When is the last time we got a kid from Ohio? It would be a nice door to open. Heart of Big 10 country.
