Video up on cyclones.tv.

I'm bored at work so I watched the spring practice video on cyclones.tv and kept score. No idea why, jut completely bored. They were either throwing into a net, or throwing to a trainer. All of them thrown to a trainer I counted completed.

Richardson: 5/5
Rohach: 4/5
Starcevich: 4/5
Lanning: 3/5

Little disappointing to see Lanning miss his first 2 throws, probably throwing 10-15 yards into a 3'x3' net.

Noticed Rohach seems to have a real low release on his throws, anyone noticed that before?

his release has always been low. I'll be very surprised if Lanning isn't 2nd string this year. Btw, SR looks big. Dude put on even more strength than last year. He's destined to have a good year if he stays healthy.

I've noticed Rhoads seems to talk about velocity a lot when describing an ideal quarterback. I notice last year that Sam's passes had a lot more zip - sounds like he might be throwing even more fastballs this year. For the record I think Sam is easily good enough for us to win 6+ games, but the running game has to be more of a threat and receivers have to learn to catch the ball in tight spaces. There were a lot of times last year that Sam put the ball right in the window it needed to be in - just out of reach of the defender and where the WR put two hands on it - but couldn't hold on to the ball.

His release could be compared to Favre's. Unorthodox but still strong. I agree that Sam looks big. He's as big as Lanning is. Speaking of Lanning his throwing motion is really nice. Looks more like a pitcher, and he really whips the ball.

I agree with everything you've said here. Sam has always been our best player these last two years as far as I'm concerned . He just doesn't have the horses around him to get the job done against teams, who already do. I'm still optimistic for this year, simply because you can see it in Sam's eyes that he is not going out a loser his senior year. That's all this team really needs, is a sense of urgency. The players that are running drills at full speed, are the ones that are going to bring this program out of the water. Sam is going full speed all the time. Same goes for Lazard. Hopefully these younger players will see this, and strive for excellence.

Sam has lost weight from last year. I haven't seen them side to side in person in awhile but I doubt he's bigger than Lanning.

He might be able to whip it, but if his first throw in that drill is any indication, he deserves to be 3rd string. Yikes. That first throw hit the the bottom of that contraption holding the net. It was about 9 feet low.

I sure hope you're right, but ....

If Starcevich stays healthy, I am interested to see how he does. He was a much better passing QB than Lanning but would never be the physical runner Lanning might be.

I really want to see Lanning play at some point in this season. Maybe it's my Ankeny bias, but he has a good amount of talent and should have been given a chance against KU, Oklahoma, or TCU during those garbage times.
