@SethOnHoops: @CycloneMBB McKay playing at a high level. He runs the floor ,jumps offensive rebounds,defends. That is the definition of a role player.

Surprised it took you so long ..
 
Prior performance is the best indicator of future success, but not the only one. Seth is undervaluing the Fred Hoiberg affect. Fred is one heck of a developmental Coach. Look at BDJ's rebounding. Fred sees the game for what it is and puts his players in a spot to utilize their talent and abilities. I know zero about the Marquette Coach or McKay's time there, but how could a guy who did what he did last night not be a big part of your team?
 
Rico Gathers is a role player who may be B12 MVP. I think some people are attaching a negative connotation to the term "role player" while Seth isn't.

Exactly. Role player is in absolutely no way an insult and people here are making it out to be. Naz's role is to shoot 3s. People need to relax

I think it's more of Seth's incredibly broad definition of a role player

I guess my definition of a role player is generally everybody who isn't a creator on the offensive end -- players that can get to the bucket, and players that you can throw it into and they can score with their back to basket on a regular basis. So I would consider a guy like Homan to be a role player, but a guy like Pratt would not be. Jake Sullivan and Rahshon Clark would be role players, but even a sophomore version of Diante Garrett would not be since he had to create offense.

Players that don't fit either category get called versatile. :jimlad:

Is that Towns or Cauley-Stein? I think Cauley-Stein would maybe be in Seth's role player category, too.
